Title: Belt broke
Post by greenmonster on 01/27/12 at 13:25:11

Yep, I managed to do it.

Does anyone happen to know what the size of that belt is? The company I work for has a pretty sweet discount with Gates and I'm hoping I can get one from there.

Thanks for your help all.

Don't think gates has an equivalent size... but if they do, let us know.

The Savage uses a Bando brand belt.  It has 133 teeth, is 40mm wide, with a 14m pitch.

A standard with many companies is 135 teeth and 1890 long, so the standard size is 28mm longer, you would need to move the wheel back by about half that or about half an inch, that is quite a bit when you look at the adjuster.  Bando might have a standard of 133 teeth but as Routy said, it may be made for this bike only.  Belts are easily made to length for industrial users who buy in batch quantities.

It may help to have the original specs in case someone needs to cross reference their belt to OE: Bando 133U-14M 40.0 Of course, the description already given bears this out, but it sometimes helps to have the part number to type in a computer for cross reference.  :)

Mine broke for no apparent reason other than mileage..  I think it was around 78,000 miles.

Runs OK.
Recently finished replacing the stretched out cam chain.  Message thread is in here somewhere.  Got most of my horsepower back with that.
Compression is at 150lb
I think I need to re-jet now though, barking like crazy on hard decel coming off the freeway.
Never had the carb open before.

Heck

Let it bark,  just -- "Howl back at it".

At 78,000 it deserves to have a life of its own !

;D ;D ;D ;D

It broke on my way home from work. Pulling away from an intersection in a... spirited, manner. No problems pulling off the line, popped her into second and rolled on the throttle. I knew that I had a problem when the sounds were right but there was no pulling. Fortunately, I was at the top of a tall hill with a big parking lot off to the right at the bottom. I rolled in there and called some friends with a pickup to come give me a lift.

Everthing would have been fine if I hadn't needed to catch a train in two hours.
