Title: Freak pre-spring in NC next few days
Post by Oldfeller on 01/23/12 at 01:11:56

Highs hitting at 70 degrees in NC for the next 3 days --- I'm gonna be riding some !!!

Have I ever said how much I like living in NC?  Mountains and coast-line all within a 4-5 hour drive, with moderate temperature weather and good annual rainfall, with trees and scenery and roads that are arguably in the top 2-3 in the nation?

I love NC !!!

I know exactly what you mean.  I think the same way about beautiful eastern Tennessee.  And as an added bonus, Tennessee has no state income tax!

The temps were definitely a nice change of pace here in central NC, but it's been raining all three days here in Raleigh.

I'll have to get out riding with you one of these days seeing as how I'm an hour away from ya.  Sure there's a ton of stuff around here you could show me.  I've only been a North Carolinian for a few years, so I'm still pretty green to the sights and all.

I wouldn't necessarily need warmer weather, I'd just be happy if we weren't getting predictions of 1" of rain a day almost every day around here! ::)

Umm, Pacific NW, right? ... Isn't that what's expected?

I took the new Mrs. for a ride around the lake today.
It was a beautiful day for a ride.
Stopped for some Mexi-food along the way.
It was a good way to start our first week together.
YEP.

Yeah, it's more or less typical.

Supposed to be around the 60s and 70s this week in west TN. Really have to get my bike back on the road soon.

You guys all piss me off (j/k)  Here in SE Wisconsin, the bike is in the garage for the next 3-3 1/2 months. I haven't seen much more than 40 for about a month already. Rain, snow, cold a$$ wind....you name it. Not good riding weather. Ah well, I still have a flat front tire and an oil leak to deal with anyways. And I sure wouldn't want to be in Alabama right now. Might be warm, but I don't want to see my bike flying through the air in some dam tornado either.

Some optimistic buttercups have bloomed here in North Miss. I made a 70 mile run roday in full sun and 61 degrees. Rode with my 82 yr old friend and his Magna. At our coming home departure point he pulled up and said, "That little 650 will scoot." I had to let it out after a stop sign on the entrance to a 4-lane. Drums, what's the status on the "Titanic"? Still ripped open or plugged enough to ride? Hope you get good riding soon.  :)

Boofer--I think it can be saved with another coat of JB weld. Just haven't gotten to it yet. Still can't afford to have it properly repaired, or replaced... but I should be able to squeek 1 more summer out of it. Right now, just waiting for some warmer weather so it bonds properly. And I still have that flat front tire to deal with. It will be ready by springtime, if that ever comes, way up here in the frozen tundra. At the moment, I'm tending the battery and counting the days.....

I think I'm gonna be picking up a pair of metzelers this month... I'll have an extra front Shinko 777 with almost 4k miles on it laying around...

70+ degrees again today -- warm and misty out tonight but partially cloudy and 70+ degrees again -- riding time all over again.

Yeah, it's about 45 F in the morning and then 75 F in the afternoon.  I think we're supposed to have a front come through that'll drop it a bit.  We should get a little rain tonight and tomorrow and then the weekend will have highs in the 50s.  Not bad at all for this time of year.

I do love Florida in the winter time, no crazy mountains to drive, but good coastal roads and 75+ highs and 60+- lows for the next 10 days

Broke into the 50's yesterday, and no rain for a change! :D Broke the bike out to run some errands around town, and took the scenic route home. Didn't get home 'til well after dark, brrr! ;D

Almost 60 today, time for a longer ride! [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif]

Yeah John, Portland got a bit warmer than here at
my house. Even Seattle got warmer. We had frost
this a.m. and sunny yet still cool out now. Maybe
get in a ride later. I started Genie up and let her
purr for quite awhile yesterday. Was just too cool
and windy here. Spring is coming though.. Riding
weather and possibly group rides again.. :) Kim

Ham45,
What part of eastern Tn.?
I moved back to Kodak (eastern)Tn. about a year ago from Marshall NC. I'd love to find someone near here with a Savage to ride these Mtns. with. Oh yea, this weather is great, I spent the last day of Jan. with the top down on the convertible. But then last Jan. was the ATV in about a foot of snow.  ;D

Daffodils have budded and opened up all nice and yellow in Raleigh NC.

Red bud trees have opened up (still red, leaves haven't turned green yet)

Robins are here and out digging them early worms.

Mother Nature says it is early spring time ....

(hope the old girl has it right the first time with no sudden relapses)
