Title: Maybe I worry too much
Post by MotoBuddha on 12/05/11 at 09:41:15

My bikes are locked in the garage, out of sight. Yet there's a guy down the street who leaves his bike in the driveway all the time. No problem. And a few blocks away, another guy leaves his bike parked in the street, year round.

At the extreme other end of the spectrum, I once went to look at a bike a guy was selling. He unlocked the barn, unlocked a closet where he kept another key to a tool chest. In the tool chest was a key to another storage room where there was yet another key that opened the steel cage back in the main room where he kept his bikes. Um, okay.

A professional thief would never steal a Savage... they steal, to sell for parts... our bikes are not popular enough, and don't have sought after accessories, or plastic trim...
So,.. it's just some teenager lookin' for a joyride that you need to protect from...
I have a bicycle U-lock on a cable... ... and a bat... :-?...

A Progressive study a couple of years ago, had the Savage as the least stolen bike in the US...
...can't give'em away..  ;D...

Yours is extra cool,.. Budda,... but most kids would want to swipe a crotch rocket...

I forget and leave my keys in mine, half the time when I park...
and nobodies ever touched it...
Hurts my feelings, sometimes...:-?...

The city I used to live in people riding scooters would padlock them with a giant chain around steel signs or telephone polls... I didn't have my LS650 then, but from the attention I get from it I'd probably do the same along with other anti-theft devices...  :D

Since crime is creeping into our country neighborhood, I have started locking my shop. The problem is when I am in the yard in my underwear or whatever I have to go back into the house to get the key to get a screwdriver for one little job. Now I have a hideout key that's about as bad to get to. So I'm mostly leaving it unlocked. If they steal my stuff, they don't win. But if I have to worry about it, they do. In my opinion, it is good to be concerned about a wide range of things in our lives, but worrying won't change a thing. For you non-believers the Bible says in Matthew chapter six that you can't add to your wealth or life span by worry. Having said that, I do worry myself, sometimes. It's just human nature.  :)

Maby if you lock it up too good the darn fools will just set it on fire. And you think you worry too much.

Make sure the sprinkler hoses are housed in solid steel tubes, and the sprinkler heads aren't visible.. and instal them in the middle of the night without the flood lights on.. and have someone purchase all the materials you need with cash only... someone you can trust, but is from out of town... make sure to set up a complex coded language for speaking over the phone, or just buy prepaid disposable phones for communication... after the job is done, don't communicate for 12 months... we don't want any leaks in this dam... yeah, we'll be riding our bikes out of this one....

Yep, fire system or armed guard. Hold on, C4 or some such under the seat, mercury switch set-up to blow if the bike is taken off the side stand without disarming. That'll fix the lousy SOBs. I had better tottle off to bed now. Ride safe, far, and often.

I keep my bikes in the garage and make sure I pay my insurance premiums.

Oh yeah, and if you don't belong around my place, Bugsy Siegel and Sir Frances Drake will find you!

One of my neighbors is a 90yr old granny. Allways peeking through windows. Sees everything and knows everything. Bet she takes pictures and makes catalogues at night. Old school so to say...

Hahahaha, might do that one day. Her entire family was taken from home by Nazis in WW2. She turned out as the only survivor, but developed as a very cautious old woman. Kinda sad and funny in the same time.
