Reportedly, it's the old Kendahl plant and they make the oil to the old spec's.

It even goes a step further and states its the oldest oil refinery in the world....

The Brad Penn® Penn Grade 1® High Performance Oils contain the higher level of anti-wear (ZDDP – zinc dialkyldithiophosphate) and enhanced film strength so critical to proper high performance engine protection. The Penn-Grade 1® oils “typical” 1,500 ppm Zinc (Zn) and 1340-1400 ppm Phosphorus (P) content provide the needed anti-wear protection to critical engine parts, such as piston/cylinder walls, roller cams under heavy valve spring pressure and especially those that employ a solid “flat tappet” type system. As important as the chemistry is to the Penn-Grade 1® oils, it is by no means the whole story. The unique base oil cut used to refine the Penn-Grade 1® High Performance Oils maintain a tremendous affinity to metal surfaces. This naturally occurring “metal wetting” characteristic enables the oil to stay put on your highly stressed engines and makes the Penn-Grade 1® High Performance Oil resist slinging for an extended period of time.

============================   Stuff's got the ZDDP you need alright -- how much is it a quart?

Versy's all bored again, and he is offering us all the chance to kick off another erl war -- all that is required now is for some idiot to say something about their favorite erl, this here old time original formulation Pennsylvania type erl, or some other better sort of erl, or say that they don't like any sort of erl at all and that they really prefer $13 a quart fresh squeezed red virgin clutch juice instead.

(you know who you are)

All we need is some pure tee dumbarsed idiot, or a newbie,  to say the magic words .....  then we is off to the races again.

Sounds like we got another Verslaggy impartial oil test coming up then ....

why is it that people lust after red oil, purple oil and now Verslagen's done located him some GREEN oil .....

..... we all do know that food colorings aren't a Society of Automotive Engineers approved oil additive, now don't we?

Rotella as sold in the USA has 1200 ppm of ZDDP in all formulations.   We are still "marginally safe" over here in the USA.

Beware if you are in Europe however, since your laws are different and more restrictive in some countries.  Rotella T1 is sold in these countries and it only has 500 ppm of ZDDP in it by law -- and ROTELLA T1 IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR A SAVAGE ENGINE ACCORDINGLY.

German Beemer forums are up in arms over their lawmakers making scrap iron out of their flat tappet older BMW bikes and cars ....

Also be aware that the Corvair and Corvette forums have taken each brand of oil off their approved flat tappet oil listings as soon as they drop below 1500 ppm on ANY of their oils.  (they don't want you having to guess)

Valvoline Racing Oil and the new stuff Verslagen just found and Royal Purple Extreme Racing are about the only regular dino oils still good enough for Corvairs and flat tappet older Corvettes.

yer screwed by yer lawmakers -- ye just don't know it yet

Nope not in the savage, I might use it in the honda though.

It doesn't say anything about zero wear. The only oil I know of with zero wear is the newest Klotz. And really why would you want your engine to have wear.

Mobil 1 has reacted to getting lambasted by the net for taking out the ZDDP without telling anybody beforehand.   (apparently they got sued for engine damage done to old style high performance engines and have REACTED accordingly)

You can now buy the old formulations from a net only site -- they are bottled as RACING ONLY and you are warned not to use them in street cars because it can harm your catalytic converter.

But you can get the stuff by the full case only from Mobile 1 on a web order and it does have 1850 ppm of ZDDP and the cost is under $9 a quart for full synthetic.  No one is going to be allowed to stock it as some on line disclaimer forms are required to order it.

http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Oils/Mobil_1_Racing_Oil_FAQs.aspx#FAQs7

You will notice that getting confused and ordering the wrong stuff off this web page is very easy to do --- plus there is a motorcycle oil page that contains NO RACING OILS AT ALL, just the wrong low ppm standard stuff.

Meanwhile, I went to the dealer to get some brake fluid and fork oil, and grabbed a few quarts of Suzuki branded motor oil. The Savage isn't a high performance bike, and mine isn't going to rack up a lot of miles, so unexceptional oil is fine for me.

Don't know anything about the Brad Penn motorcycle oil, but all the gas stations around here (central PA) carry either Brad Penn or Wolfs Head Oil auto oil. Never used either but I've never heard anything bad about  em.
