Title: Front end swap
Post by McMillan on 11/23/11 at 06:28:38

I would like to install a set of inverted forks and was wondering if anyone attempted to swap the front forks with a set from a GSXR or anything. If so what did you use?

While I personally haven't done anything, I'm interested in the topic.

Truckinduc (if i got that right) has done some pretty wild stuff with his bike overall (front end included). you can look him up for more info on that.

A "number" of people swap out the front for 80's gs450/550 (i think) to get mag wheels (search for a topic titled "whale").

there was a bike called firelizard (don't remember the owner's name  :-[ ) that had a long springer front end.

I imagine if you find the right neck bearings you could make a lot of different front ends fit. that's all way out of my realm of expertise though. maybe some of the more heavy modders here can ring in and tell you more.

The 80's GS series stems and trees are compatible with the LS head tube.
Of course they have different offset so it will affect steering geometry.
But with a generous rake we have, just about anything will work.

I would buy a tree from the desired donor and check it out.
That would be the quickest way with minimal expense.

The firelizard was owned by Yonuh

Thanks but the mag wheel is not what I want. I would like to keep the spoke wheel but have the inverted fork.

The gxsr front wheel will have a larger axle, 22mm or 25mm not sure.
So you will need to find a spoked wheel for it.

Here, this will give you an example of what it'll take...
