Title: Went on storm cleanup, had a crash...
Post by WD on 11/10/11 at 19:23:57

Left Memphis Tuesday morning around 0800. Rolled into Farmington Connecticut about 2000 Wednesday night.

Brake failed on the big truck in Wilkes Barre Penn Wednesday afternoon. Axle seal let go and filled a drum full of oil. Tried to stop on a hill courtesy of somebody making an illegal u-turn on the freeway. Hit a later model pickup (fullsized Dodge). I was in a Sterling 9000...

Ticket will be coming in the mail. Will be BIG.

Probably going to get canned... oh well.

. Doesnt sound like it was your fault,.Or did you know your brakes were bad & you decided to drive on anyway?

Do you own the rig, or is it company owned? If it's company owned, I would think the liability would be on them, not you. Hopefully all turns out well, and you still have a job.

Company truck. Pre-trip that morning showed no leak.

Just a citation. I'll pay it and fight with the company over it later.

I'd just as soon get let go over it, I didn't move back here to be going out of town in a big truck. Came back here to run the farm.

YOu pay the citation you admit being at fault. I dont think a guy should be paying a ticket when mechanical failure was the cause. I was driving a wireline truck & when I got to the stop sign, it had no brakes. I rolled right on thru, IF I had had a wreck, should I have gotten a ticket? Not my fault the truck wouldnt stop.. I didnt run the sign, the truck did.. TRust me, I was stomping on the brake & hollerin WHOA,,
I replaced the master cylinder with a 2 chamber unit, so IF a brake failed, I wouldnt be completely w/o brakes. A line broke on the rear, no drips, no warnings,, just everything is fine to OOOHh Boy,, this is bad,,

Dont pay it.
