Title: Engine weight??? Post by jandaso on 10/20/11 at 17:41:40 So I'm about to take it off by myself. So let me know guys I don't want to leave a ball on the floor. |
Title: Re: Engine weight??? Post by Boofer on 10/20/11 at 17:47:27 Make that both and a 'rhoid. Somebody here says about 118 lbs. |
Title: Re: Engine weight??? Post by Serowbot on 10/20/11 at 17:47:58 110 lbs... no so bad if you grunt loud... ;)... Just keep telling yourself,... shoot,.. that's ballerina weight... :-?... |

Get some help. It isn't all that heavy, but it is real clumsy getting out of the frame and putting it down. Also, consider sitting it down on something a foot or two off the floor that is strong enough to hold it. Getting it from waist level down to the floor can slip a disc. I'm 6'3 and 210. The only time I have ever had any back problems was when I was too macho to get some help when I needed to pull airconditioners out of windows, take props off aircraft, etc. |
Title: Re: Engine weight??? Post by jandaso on 10/20/11 at 18:12:59 You guys just saved two of my greatest Possessions. I'll wait then. I lift and move around that weight but that's I'm the gym with a great grip. It seems that taking it out of the frame will be clumsy Getting it out like Gyrobob said. |
Title: Re: Engine weight??? Post by Boofer on 10/20/11 at 18:22:20 I replaced a 32" tube tv with a 32" lcd. The new one weighs about 18 lbs. The old one caused a crack in my foundation. ;D I got every cushion and pillow in the house in the den floor and just rolled it off the entertainment center onto my Cosmonaut landing space. Rolled it onto a two wheeler and outside. DO NOT use your wife's cushions for a greasy engine. If you're single, go ahead. It endears us to our girlfriends BEFORE we're married. It's just something they can "fix" later. |
Title: Re: Engine weight??? Post by Oldfeller on 10/20/11 at 18:22:55 A trick that is often used is to lay the frame over on the side, lay the engine into place w/ 2 people and maneuver everything into place with the engine being supported by the ground. A blanket on the ground helps keep the marring down, and once you get at least a couple of engine mount bolts in place you can go vertical without popping your roids even a little bit. |
Title: Re: Engine weight??? Post by Serowbot on 10/20/11 at 18:28:34 Whooped by a ballerina... :-[... LOLOLOL!... ;D ;D ;D... Come on dude,.. you got have a pair to drop one... I've pulled the engine a couple of times, and I only weight 140... Yer' spectacles will definitely be aware,.. but they'll get over it once you put it down... Did I mention, I can now hit the high notes that only dogs can hear?... ;D... |
Title: Re: Engine weight??? Post by MotoBuddha on 10/20/11 at 18:29:22 I'm an old weenie-armed guy, but I managed to lift it out of the frame and, later, back in, with the help of a friend holding the bike upright and sliding a mounting bolt in. The hard part is finding a place to get a good grip, especially when it's as dirty and oily as mine was when I pulled it out. One of the reasons I had the side covers off when I put it back in was so I'd have a place to grab. |
Title: Re: Engine weight??? Post by verslagen1 on 10/20/11 at 18:30:16 yeah, it's about a ton. I used to lay it over, now I just bear hug the jug and throw it up on the bench... it's a shorter walk that way. |
Title: Re: Engine weight??? Post by Demin on 10/20/11 at 20:54:19 It's easier than lifting a Shovelhead Harley engine. ::) |
Title: Re: Engine weight??? Post by drums1 on 10/21/11 at 07:22:16 The guys on OCC lift them big VTwins all the time. This one's got to be a lot lighter. I may be giving mine a shot this winter, to better fix my rock-induced hole. |

Title: Re: Engine weight??? Post by baker87 on 10/21/11 at 08:29:13 my engine without the carb or head covers only weighed 85 pounds and that was on a scrap yards scales.... i weighed it at 5 different scrap yards to see if it was just 85 pounds.... |
Title: Re: Engine weight??? Post by bill67 on 10/21/11 at 09:10:19 Their was a 6 ft 7 and really built guy in my town that could lift a small block chevy engine off the ground and alway up to his waist. |
Title: Re: Engine weight??? Post by Bubba on 10/21/11 at 14:27:50 I pulled mine out and carried it down the basement steps to my shop. I did have to have my 8 year old open the doors for me tho'... ;D I'm 145lbs but I had a pretty good grip on it. just nestled it like a really big baby... |
Title: Re: Engine weight??? Post by jandaso on 10/21/11 at 17:03:20 Well ok. I guess I won't lose a ball after all. I weight 176 so be hearing all this comments I'm good. Thanks Maybe at the end I can do a high Pitch noise that only dogs can hear. |

As was mentioned earlier, it doesn't weigh more than most kids, but if you are doing it by yourself, it is real clumsy to get it out. |
