Title: LIT Car-Bike Post by Grand Strand on 10/11/11 at 18:43:34 Pretty cool concept. Sort of a cross between a motorcycle, a car, and a segway! http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/tech/2011/10/11/simon-lit-transportation.cnn?iref=allsearch Be nice to see if he can make anything from the idea! Title: Re: LIT Car-Bike Post by Serowbot on 10/11/11 at 23:49:51 That's pretty cool... I just always worry,... what if a gyro fails?... Secondly,.... I'm not sold on electric... Batteries,... too heavy, and costly... Oh,.. and thirdly,... does it have air?... I live in Arizona after all... Here, we call tiny glass boxes,... solar ovens... .. but, I am into creative alternatives... ... can't understand why we need 3 tons of transport to haul 12lbs of groceries... I'd really like to see a side by side, 2 seater, air powered, with similar light weight, and style... ... and maybe,...3 wheels... :-?... How many of us, will live to see the day?... Exciting times... ;)... |
Title: Re: LIT Car-Bike Post by arteacher on 10/12/11 at 02:56:11 Where do you put the groceries, or the golf clubs? Reminds me of the first review of the Smart car I saw. The guy said it was great, except he had to make two trips to take his kids to school. ;D For $16 grand it isn't very much of anything. |
Title: Re: LIT Car-Bike Post by splash07 on 10/12/11 at 05:14:40 still cheaper than a new Harley |
Title: Re: LIT Car-Bike Post by built2last66 on 10/12/11 at 09:25:52 I see no future for that thing, unless they improve the nuts out of it.. complete overhaul.. looks pretty useless to me.. no where to even put my backpack... I can buy one of those or a Triumph Rocket III and a rain suit... |
Title: Re: LIT Car-Bike Post by Gyrobob on 10/12/11 at 09:49:42 Incredible coool. Think of this concept being applied to motorcycles in general. Or how about small cars sorta like their prototype, but with a little more room in it. If they made it about 6" wider and 2' longer, it'd have as much utility as the Miata I had for a few years. |

It looks like there are two gyros. "Air powered" You mean compressed air powering an air motor? Battery technology is a "leaps and bounds" thing these days. There are aircraft now, battery powered, that can haul two people for a few hours. Two years ago this was impossible. I'd think battery power for this kind of vehicle (light loads, not many people, short trips) would be ideal. 3 wheels nullifies their breakthrough. |

Cool. I remember reading several (many) years ago about a flywheel car or bus. Perfectly clean energy. Used electricity and/or regeneration to store energy in the flywheel. It spun in a vacuum at something like 20,000 rpm and used (in effect) air-ride bearings of some sort that had the flywheel almost drag free so it could sit for half a day and only lose a little of the energy stored. |

Title: Re: LIT Car-Bike Post by justin_o_guy2 on 10/17/11 at 08:59:29 The flywheel could be used for stability & power. |

Title: Re: LIT Car-Bike Post by Grand Strand on 10/17/11 at 14:53:23 What’s not to like about a gyro? I haven’t heard of the bus before but I have heard of someone working with a hybrid with a small gas engine and some batteries that powered a massive gyro. They were putting it in a striped stock car. Can’t remember what. Kinda fun to think about though. |
Title: Re: LIT Car-Bike Post by jandaso on 10/17/11 at 15:07:43 The concept is cool. There is already a bike like that but its a two-seater. The only innovating thing about this people is the technology that makes the bike/car not fall to the side. check http://www.monotracer.ch/ i have seen 2 of them here in Atlanta, GA and its powered by a BMW motorcycle engine. |
Title: Re: LIT Car-Bike Post by Starlifter on 10/17/11 at 20:17:32 "I see no future for that thing."....I do, here in the northland where we can only ride five months of the year, this would be great. |
Title: Re: LIT Car-Bike Post by arteacher on 10/18/11 at 09:00:48 I remember those air powered toy airplanes and cars. I thought they were pretty cool. |
