Title: raptor petcock question Post by weracerc on 10/10/11 at 16:21:09 ok i know i should know thwe answer to this since I have had a Raptor for almost a year now - but - which way is the correct orientation of the knob/handle/do-dad/thingy....does the long end point towards the setting (reserve, off, on) - or is it the short end that is pointed towards the setting? |
Title: Re: raptor petcock question Post by Oldfeller on 10/10/11 at 16:23:46 Raptors are labeled in plain English, stamped on the face of the petcock so you can see where the long lever is pointed. |

Title: Re: raptor petcock question Post by weracerc on 10/10/11 at 16:35:38 i know where the settings are - and from this i read that the long end of the handle is pointed towards the setting, not the short end - that is how i have been running - the reason i asked is that i was on the "on" setting long side down - had run 90 miles on the odom decided to fill up and it held 2.2 gal - i dont see how i got 2.2 in the tank and had not been running on reserve or run over 110 miles.......thought it was odd....now I have laid on the gas a few times this tank, JUST BECAUSE IT FELT GOOD TO FEEL THE POWER....NOT MY USUAL BORING 3000 rpm or less wuss-riding.......if it sucks that much gas from afew hard ACCELERATIONS I WILL FOREVER BE RIDING WUSS-STYLE IN ORDER TO GET THE MPG"s BACK UP... maybe i need a touch of Pee-Foam! |

Title: Re: raptor petcock question Post by weracerc on 10/10/11 at 16:49:55 I concur - thanks for the photo confirmation - i guess i really do need to lay off the throttle....considering i have dropped 40lbs in the past month it ought to be getting better MPG's already...back to wuss-style rider mode. |
Title: Re: raptor petcock question Post by verslagen1 on 10/10/11 at 16:57:16 have you done the white spacer mod? that's usually the culprit. |

Title: Re: raptor petcock question Post by weracerc on 10/10/11 at 17:01:41 i got scared a month ago while in Massachusetts on business trip - i got real serious and immediately began new eating habits - de-carb, de-fat, de-sugar, de-salt...next step when i hit 350 will be walking....39lbs to go for that goal no i have not done the white spacer mod yet - but this is the only low mileage tank i have had and i honestly think it is because i have been riding it harder than i usually do. 52.5 & 152 jets 1.5 turns CCW on the air fuel - have not needed the choke at all so far with the chilly weather here. |
Title: Re: raptor petcock question Post by Boofer on 10/10/11 at 19:42:07 I hate to be a smart alec, but it feels so good. When I want to know which way is on/off, etc, I just look at the arrow on the petcock handle. I don't remember ever seeing a fuel valve without that arrow. You can kinda see the arrow in the photograph. ;) |
