Title: About to pull the trigger
Post by goattw3lve on 09/29/11 at 19:53:32

On a new S40. The dealer has agreed to let me test ride it (after a bit of grumbling about it making it a used bike). It's only my second bike- so I'm still fairly new to the buying process. They've given me a $300 off coupon to use on the $5100 price tag. I see that's the price on Suzuki's site, so I assume that's the price everyone sells them new for? I'm thinking I'll order my saddlebags and windshield and such on my own. I feel like I'd be paying more via the dealer, I guess. Any advice regarding the process appreciated. Very much looking forward to joining the ranks.  :P

If there aren't any other dealers within easy driving distance, a few hundred dollars wont matter over a lifetime of riding (well, a half dozen years anyway) compared to a local dealer who is on your side.

Putting on a windshield isn't usually difficult..bags not difficult either so you could get these items and install them yourself...if you aren't too mechanically inclined, save up for the required maintenance (valve adjustment et al) and have them do it ...you'll then have documentation should any warranty issues/difficulties come up...again, you'll spend a few hundred more than doing it yourself but it's good protection in the long run.

By this time next year you will be giving the answers to the newbies. ;)

IMO, dealer proximity means nothing with these bikes. If you use the dealer for maintenance on these youll spend youself into oblivion & it will be in the shop instead of on the road during the riding season. If I was doing it over, Id get a Used one & use the saved $$$ to get tools & bags & a windshiled & a book,,

Is it typical for a MC dealer to discount a new bike between 10% to 20% from MSRP like car dealers do?(used to?).  I'm gonna start looking seriously for a bike(used) about mid October.  It would just be good info to have to know how much a dealer will move from MSRP.

I know where you can get a used pink one with 125 miles for only 3700
