That aint the half of it.
They can print ceramic clay. Which goes to the foundary and metal is poured in.  Or they can use sintered metal and then melt a copper slug into it.

Yes, I'm going there... Can you print me up a Scarlett Johanson? :)

I imagine in a few years they will have software that you can purchase with prescanned objects that you can print out at home...

No one has to know ;0)

With big money behind it, tech like this has no limits really.

There is an open source movement that has been doing these 3d printers at home for a number of years now. The main one is called RepRap.

http://reprap.org/wiki/Main_Page

The initial concept was that the machine needed to be able to reproduce the parts needed to create itself. There's a bunch of info out there, and a lot of people are making their own at home and experimenting with it.

Check out the page, or do some youtube searches for it.

Yes it's awesome to see corporations pulling this off on this level, but imagine having your own personal 3d printer? It's just a matter of time, and I like the open source movement behind it.

The world has left me behind. I could walk around in a state of amazement at the things that exist today, Not only can I not keep up, theres so much stuff to know, I dont even want to. Im pretty happy in my little world, doing the simple things I know how to do.
I did, however, meet the first cell phone I ever met that I didnt basically hate, My wifes smartphone, apple product, has a touch screen & the numbers are big eough even I can do it. I dont yet know HOW to make a call,, or answer one,, but,, thats coming,,
