Title: Malibu vs Plexistar 2
Post by Konstable on 09/12/11 at 00:02:03

Long time reader/lurker/fan. But now that I'm trying to suit up my ride for a cross-country tour I'll be taking in the next year or two. I figured I'd get some opinions from those of you who have these specific windshields on your Savages.

I'm primarily focused on a Memphis Shades Malibu (In Solar color); vs a Plexistar 2  from National, in that order of preference.

Are there any negatives to the Malibu? Being that the 4 points are drilled through, is there any wory of cracking over the long term?
Are there any real advantages to the National models over the Memphis Shades?  I really appreciate the slight tint of the solar colored Malibu. I get migranes from time to time, and even a tiny bit of sun protection goes a long way; so unless there's a genuine reason to pick the National over the Malibu, my mind would pretty much be made.

Am I just putting too much thought into this?

PS, as best as I can tell, these can be had in the $175ish range with free shipping.   Is that the going rate on these, or do any of you know of a good super-mega-online-discount.com type of retailer?

We used the National Cycle Dakota 4.5.  It ran a little more than this, but its a pretty nice product.

I have a Plexistar 2 that so far has been on an 800 Marauder, GZ250, and the Savage.  Although I don't tour, I do ride in the always exciting and often cold Cheyenne winds, and wanted the Plexistar to keep the wind from freezing me to death on spring/fall rides, particularly my hands.  It does that, has been versatile due to the mounting system, and does not scratch easily.  On the Savage I need to cut it down about two inches, to be able to see over it in weather, but haven't done that yet - a winter project.
I know nothing about the Malibu, but most of us end up getting what we prefer.  If the Malibu suits you more.....
I don't know of a discount site for windshields, but you might Google the model of windshield and see if someone is having a sale.
