So I scored a used Fly Screen. Looks pretty cool, and I tried it out today, and it definitely took the wind off my chest.

However, I have more testing to do with the angle of it. I'm wondering what some of your experiences are with that?

I wish I had my own wind tunnel to experiment with ;)
My mind thinks that if it's too vertical, then there will be no real 'stream'. But if it's too angled, then it sort of cancels itself out. I don't expect to get the wind off my face, or neck even. But there must be a 'sweet spot' angle wise. I'd love to know what that is from a scientific stand point.

Is your fly screen set up off the handle bars on extender rods?

I had one of these on the 535 Yamaha I sold this spring, and I liked it a lot.

Run the fly screen out on the rods so it is like 4-5 inches above the handlebars and play with the angle until it deflects the wind blast OVER your helmet.

People don't think about it but there is a wind shear coming off that little screen that extends its effective range far beyond what you would think a little screen like that could do.

No air gets past that 4-5" gap over the handle bars because of the wind shear blocking it to the bottom. And by "flattening" the screen a little bit you force the upper wind shear to flare up to bounce the wind blast over your helmet.

Don't forget to check the sides too, balance is nice right left as well.

Folks will look at you funny, running down the road at full speed holding your bare hand up next to your head then raising it up over you head and feeling around right and left.

But the bikers who have tuned a windshield will all grin and understand ....

Sounds like, raise it up quite a bit, and have it be more straight up than you'd think.

I'll do another test ride tomorrow. If I could actually get the stream over my head, I'd be blown away, err, not blown away. ;)

I set my Spitfire to be about the same angle as my forks. Looks good and works for me.

Taller/wider than yours -- you got the smallest screen that exists.

Yours can still can do the job, though.

I really raised it up and I had some success with that. There's a huge gap though between the top of the headlight and the bottom of the screen. I don't like the looks nearly as much, but it definitely keeps the wind off of more of my face. Not too much air sneaks in under the shield either, which surprises me a bit. I might try raising it or changing the angle once more...

I think having it up that high, I'd probably rather have the clear version. Not sure. But all that really matters is that it knocks wind off my body and face a bit.

I fiddle with mine for a while before getting it right. The top of my fly shield was just below my eye level looking over the top of it, but I am short and perhaps you are not. Mine was clear, BTW.

Also, I moved mine out/forward some too, to give the deflection pattern more room to expand (bigger/taller) before reaching me.

Yes, it does look strange sticking up & out that far in the air, but you noticed it works, so now it is just tune and fiddle time until you get it maximized for your body.

Yeah I'm still trying to determine how much angle plays a part in the deflection pattern, as you put it. I think I have a pretty good angle at the moment, but I may test it slightly more vertical once more at the new height.

Currently it's as high as it will go, unless I bring it closer to the bars...

Vers, how high does your screen measure. If it's short, then I imagine you're still getting hit in the face with wind, depending on how tall you are.

When I had mine like yours, I was still getting wind on my neck.

I set mine about as far up on the forks as I could. The angle follows the forks angle and it looks pretty good that way. I've been thinking I need to steepen the angle on it but haven't tried it yet. I'm thinking it may actually cause more turbulence doing that.
Seems to take the wind off my chest but my head gets blown around some.
Generally, I hate the look of a windshield but this one is way less intrusive.

Yeah, honestly, I don't like the look of it being so high, but I'm willing to let it slide if it's going to really make a difference. Although I might have gotten clear instead of dark, just because of the height.

That's the main thing though. the angle. At some point you get diminished returns, or even worse, more turbulence coming over the top.

If you're creating an 'stream' of air, it should help to block other wind, in theory anyway.

The shield is naturally curved, so it's not like sticking a piece of flat glass out there, but still, angle is important.

I have mine 2 1/2 inches to bottom of flyscreen bracket from turn signal clamp but i also have a broomstick on 4" pullback risers
