Title: Can't sell my Savage!
Post by Mike Wedderburn on 09/08/11 at 12:21:40

I have the strangest problem:
Three times I have placed my 2009 S40 on Craigslist and Cycletrader, to sell.
Each time, I chicken out and pull the ad after a week or less.
I try to get rid of this bike. But, every time I ride it, it cracks me up. It runs great and loves to backfire on shutdown. The backfire alone is worth the price of the bike. ( I usually look for potential victims before I turn the key off. ;D Great fun!)

The old girl turned over 13K today. Will check the tensioner at next oil change.

I did mod the pipe. I cut out the guts, on the end only, and then got a big flat washer from the hardware store. I found a 1.25" to 1.5" exhaust reducer at Pep Boys, welded a steel freeze plug on one end. (I had to grind the washer hole to fit the pipe and protruded it about a .25" through the washer.) I filed the outside of the washer and made it interference fit the end of the muffler. (Did I mention I drilled about 40 small holes around the reducer?) It sounds great and runs good. Also took a little off the white spacer in the carb.  Other than that, it's stock and fun as Hell.

I'm still looking for another bike...
But, I think my little thumper is safe for now.

Back to lurking,
Mike

You must really love that bike to put 13K on her in 2 years. Why would you consider selling in the first place?

I got me a new bike (C50) in the spring but I never concidered selling the thumper. It's paid for and a blast to ride.

Welcome Mike,
As you probably found out, you don't WANT to sell your savage, considering their resale value.  The money you can expect from doing all the good mods?  $0.00.  Ugh.. still burns.

Yeah, just ride the wheels off it  ;)

I bought two (2) better bikes, kept them for a while and then sold them because I didn't ride them enough to keep the battery charged.

Savage never had that problem ....

When that little voice in your head says, "Don't sell." maybe you should listen to it. You do have a little voice in your head, don't you? I do.  :-/

Myself, I  have no plans of getting rid of my Genie.
Even if I do someday get a different bike, I have
no plans in parting with my Genie. She is so
special in so many ways.. :) kim

Mine is special too Kim. I think it rode the little bus... If I could remember to unhook the battery at night mine would be quite usable (well, if it ever gets pegs/floorboards, finish painted, new tires, battery number too high too count, main relay replaced so the battery quits draining...)

Resale value on mine is maybe $500. Not worth the headaches of advertising it. It has been completely redone 3x, I'd guess I'm in it around $10K (and it still looks like a junker)...

I actually gave it away once when I tore up my back and was told I'd never ride again. It made its way home... and stayed with me when two far more usable bikes were let go.

Keep it, it likes you.

My Savage is in pieces (and has been for two years) in my back shed.  As the shed has no doors its in full view.  I've had four offers on just because it is sitting there.  It isn't for sale but I guess I am lucky it hasn't been stolen.   :D

Okay...
You guys talked me into it. The Savage stays.
Tuesday, this crazy bike took me on a great ride through the foothills of Coalinga to King City, CA. (Kinda scary in the boonies with such a small tank.) Bike ran great (No cam chain tensioner blow up!) Gotta love these thumpers!
