Title: World tour route
Post by verslagen1 on 09/04/11 at 08:52:43

The route will be fluid for a while untill we get enough for at least a month out of hand offs.

Raise your hand and I'll put you on the map.

Must be a "best guess" map?  Or have you verified some of the way point people already?

You ain't getting me to go all the way to Armadillo, TX!!
Bend that down a bit and and I can take a hand off from Austin and perform one to the Houston area.

Oh.. and that's Amarillo for you non-Texans.  ;D

There's a lot of "No mans land" out there... :-?...

This might work better if we were Gold Wing riders... ;D...

Looking at the map and tryin' to encite some action.

Knowing the riding season up north is short, so if it were to start in seattle and work across the northern states would make the best use of summer.

heck, it could start anywhere.  even one of them lonely far far far east locations.

The baton isn't decided upon yet, although I've threatened.  It looks like a stuffed bunny is the most likely hair to be pulled.

Theoretically I would love to take a handoff between SLC, UT and Boise, ID - I'm close to the middle of that stretch of the possible route.

(230 miles to Boise, 165 miles to SLC)

A thought for bridging the gaps (especially the oceans) ....

Pick a figurine or stuffed thingie that is cheap and universally accessible (like a stuffed rabbit for Thumper) and each group shows pics of Thumper moving through their area.

Might not be the same Thumper, but the idea is the same.

Thumper at Fontana Dam, Thumper at the Dragon, Thumper at Mt. Mitchell,  Thumper at the Tunnel to Nowhere, Thumper at Dollywood, Thumper at the place where the Hurley fell down the embankment,  Thumper on the scraped up Kawachunkie,  Thumper sitting on Sluggo's tire at burnout time, Thumper sitting on the lava flow (burning slowly) Thumper with a firecracker stuffed up his butt getting ready to poot his stuffing out.   A fuel soaked Thumper lighting the big last night campfire.

(you get the general idea, run Thumper through your area then retire him in a creative fashion).

Thumper could go a lot of interesting places and do a lot of interesting one-off tricks if you wanted him to.

I guess the point is you got gaps you ain't gonna bridge, both here and in the coastal areas of the world between continents.

Plus, if you do pick a figurine expect some practical jokers to be posting some silly stuff.

(we are well supplied with them PJs here on the list).

Thumper in the dumper ....   (eeeeeewww)    :P

Way to far South for me.... but if the route happens to change, I would be happy to contribute a 100 miles or so around Denver, CO or Cheyenne, WY!  :)

I think Thumper is known for wandering all over the place.

We all do various trips durring the year.

Raising your hand now means your interested.  When the baton is at the next rider, you and he will negotiate a hand off.  Might take a week or 2 for you to find a date that works.  Circumstances may even require the use of a 4 wheeled helmet from time to time.

In the case that there's no rider w/in a reasonable distance, put the baton in a box and mail it.

Map updated.

I'm in. there are a few savages around here. I'll do a hand off but it'll prolly take until after the winter to get this far east. I'don't have any dragon plans until next spring/summer.

As quickly as this is filling in...   :-?

I see this as not happening till maybe october when it'll be cool enough to go across the southern border.  Maybe meander a bit, then head across the northern border next summer.

Untill we get enough people, not going anywhere.

Versie

You know I want a turn at toting "Thumper" around for a day or two !

OooooYeaaa ,  put me on the list.   Two hundred miles neighborhood.

I'm thinking up to 200 to pick it up   ,    Keep it a week or so and then a couple hundred to hand it off at the next weather break.

        :o    8-)

If you're going to start in Seattle, you could go south through Portland. Or you could start in the Portland area and head north to Seattle and then across. If it gets near the Portland area, or Salem, let me know.

I'm surprised, no one in california wants to ride.

"I'm yer huckleberry" as Doc Holliday said.
I know a few hollers up here in these hills. If I'm in Jacksonville, Fl at that time, it can happen there. Beach or mountains? Hmmmmm.

If I read the map right, noone has spoke up for Dallas yet. I'm in Fort Worth. I'd be interested. I could manage a half way meet to San Antonio, and if you find somebody in Arkansas, maybe a meetup in Texarkana. Depending on the timing, who knows? Might be able to go further than that.

I'm for getting in on this but it's Sept and already getting pretty chilly here in northwestern PA.

Gotta bend that curve back up outta NC thru WV, then thru PA.... maybe....

We've had chilly weather, but still plenty of warm left too.  Couple weeks ago was 97°, followed a couple days later with high of like 65.  High today of 80, Thursday will only be 65.  Just wait a few days, the weather changes.

I can help bridge the gap between San Antonio (where youzguyz iz) and FTW if the widget is heading NE.  There's also LostArtist near Houston, in case it's going East.

We should figure out a way to figure out the route.  Maybe some guidelines like: it can sit in one place for X weeks, then will be mailed to the nearest participant, exact direction not required, but striving for general West to East (assuming it should go around the world?).  I don't know exactly how to set it up.  But it seems unlikely the whole route will get planned out, and probably shouldn't be.  It will have to be ad-hoc with a few simple and loose rules of the game.

Let's get those hands up!

once we have enough hands to get thru a month or two of travel, then we can start talking about schedule.

No one in arid zona willing to come to blythe?

Count me in if you need someone from central-eastern NC.  Not sure what it entails, but that's never stopped me before  ;D

I'm in.  Am also participating in the KLR650 for hitting every state.  They have an idea  to carry around a gold and/or oversized replica of a doohickey (the bike's nemesis) which led me to think we could do a similar thing with this bike's nemesis (the cam chain adjuster).  Would be great if some machinist could whip out a facsimile about 5x bigger than the original.  Or even a whittler could make one out of wood.  Each rider or group could take a pic with the evil adjuster as it's transferred to the next.  Would be a great pic fest for the photo gallery.

From looking at the map, I don't see it coming anywheres near SE Wisconsin. Last winter was rough up here. I didn't start riding until May. If it's coming this way, I might be interested in participating. (Provided the beast is still running) If it's a winter thing, I'll just watch.

Or are you guys snubbing me and Bill67 ?? (haha that's a joke, son)

all you gotta do is raise your hand and the little beastie will be routed to you.  Now, it would help to know when your riding seasons are.  But at this point, we need to fill in the gaps.  Pm you neighbor and ask them to meet you in (insert god forsaken hell hole w/no savages here)  And he in turn will find some other... savage to pass it to.

You want to pass it to bill... fine, just be prepared to meet him at his mail box.   ;D

Post by drums1 on 09/17/11 at 17:21:23

Riding season here is usually May-Halloweenish. I went down to Bills about a month ago. We went from the door to the connected garage and a little driveway in there. I was in a cage at the time, or I would have forced him to ride at least a mile with me. Other than that, I have no idea who my other neighbors are, if in fact, there even are any. Anywho.....
