Title: World tour
Post by verslagen1 on 09/02/11 at 12:30:39

The other group I'm getting involved in has a cool event called the world tour.  Basically it's a relay tour, pass the baton kind of thing.  Haven't actually found what they are passing... they call it godzilla though.  Could be a euphanizm for something else or a godzilla figure.  They form teams to coordinate hand offs.  It's not a race so timing is whatever.  No specific route either.

Any one interested?

I would propose ad hoc relay, take it for a ride, perferrably down a road no one's taken it before.  Then meet up with another member to hand it off.  The route will need to be documented.  We can start up a thread for updates.

While it could be a figurine of some sort, I think something hollow for stuffing notes into and plain enough that we could write on or apply stickers to.  While I'd rather it not look like a pipe bomb the only thing I can think of is a white PVC pipe w/screw on end caps  Ø1.5" x 12"  pret near indestructable, big enough to roll up sheets of paper in and white to be written on with sharpe.

Other group? OTHER GROUP!!?? I knew it. You've been on the computer less and less. Then you want a Honda...and ask our blessings. No way Bucko. You leave now, Don't come back! We poured our problems out to you. You acted like our pal. Now we see...we feel so used. You were just waiting for this other group. What makes THEM so special? Just go on. Go on over there. I don't care if you buy a Chinese scotter. Hope you enjoy.  ;D :) I saw a Honda like yours at a tire store parked in the employee parking. (On the grass) You can't buy antiques in Mississippi....we're still using them. ;)

Hey it's still a single over head cam with four valves per cylinder.
And now that I see you get 2 babes with every one, I gotta have four.   8-)
And it's probably the same age as that one too, an official antique.
I just hope the babes aren't antique too.   ::)

How about something like the "Travelocity - -  nome guy"   He seems to get around a lot.

Kinda like  "Take the nome for a ride , then pass it on to somebody else ".

:o

Yeah I thought of him too.  And of course what every one wants is cool with me.  I was just thinking of the yule log type thing.  Writing on it, putting in notes in it's "belly" for the others on it's tour.

Also, there's going to be times when we reach an impass, such as an ocean.
I should be small enough to drop in a cheap box and mailed forward.

Vers, just where is it going to start from?
And where do you propose for it to end?
Would this just be for riders of Suzuki's
or other makes of bikes? :) kim

Title: Re: World tour
Post by verslagen1 on 09/02/11 at 21:37:07

It can start from anywhere.
It doesn't ever have to end.
But hopefully it would return to where it started.
Once we decide on the token, it can start.
The one who suggests what the token should be, should be prepared to donate it.
This is a club thing, I feel it should be carried by club members.
But not a hard a fast rule, circumstances will arise.

Would be cool if there could be pictures of the hand offs. There could even be a blog that tracked the progress.

Versy, I didn't know it was  thumper. I thought it was a CB 500-4. For myself the Ascot thumper is the one I would love to have, I think. Have you guys ever heard of Flat Stanley? It's a little cutout of a kid you mail to grandma, friends, cousins, etc in another place and take pictures of him having fun, then mail it back. I did it once for some friends who mailed it to me. Something cut out of a piece of leather could work, but it wouldn't be easy to write on, just easy to carry under your riding clothes. Sounds like ya'll will have a good time. :)

how about a map  ....  we could mark the hand-off places with numbers at every handoff .?

or

A  Map in a Tube ?    What about  map  '"A" going around the US.  and  map "B" going around Europe  ,   Map   "C" going around Australia  ?

At some point  the maps can be shipped overseas ?

What if I bought a US map and passed it on to OldFeller (or vice-versa) during our upcomming Sept. ride ?   The first    "TRADE-OFF" point could be the Dragon Central ?

What do ya think Versie  ,  this is you original idea .

:)

I don't think a map will do, or one map will do.

I would go back the original design of simply a carrier for such a map(s).
add maps as necessary.

And people would be less inclined to log their travels on the site.

It's gonna be important to know who has it or had it last.

And I like the banner idea, nothing but the banner to get lost.

And provides a good size for pictures.

I'd like to get this going so the inaugural run is 9/11

How about it Lukeduck?

Sounds good to me-When we go riding later tis month will have to discuss seriously-Luke

Hope I get a chance to tote it a while !

This is a Great Idea Versey   ,

We need to start fleshing out a route.
I'll start another thread.

I was thinking of a Thumper.   Stuffed animal Disney thing.  Figurine would be too fragile.
But.. I know that thinking isn't one of the things I do best.

Title: Re: World tour
Post by mpescatori on 09/05/11 at 08:52:49

Yeah ! A Vicious Thumper !!!

So... when is it going to ride in my vicinity ?

:D

Title: Re: World tour
Post by verslagen1 on 09/05/11 at 10:52:35

New option added for stuffed thumper.

Hurry up, make your decision, only have one week left.

Otherwise, tonight I will order the banner.

And if we go with thumper...
how about attaching a small 4x6" state flag to it, riders can sign the flag.
Or a country flag for those that are international.
Or a small sheet of soft vinyl (has to fit in small box for shipping)

What if  one of those stuffed toys that's all white for people to sign could be found in the shape of a bunny? Sorry I don't know what they're called. I see them sometimes in the hospital. We could just sign the "Thumper" as we handed it off.

So has a decision been made on where it is
getting started from, and what exactly are
we going to be handing off? Let me know.. :) kim

Title: Re: World tour

No decision yet. Not enough hands up to go any where.

If we go with Thumper, how about one of those plush toys with a zippered compartment?  Even if I could find a Thumper stuffed, I could remove the stuffing and sew in a zipper.  Then we'd have a place to store items.

Hate to be the party pooper (not really... :-?) but,... this thing is gonna' see a lot more UPS miles than Savage miles,... so... I'd recommend something cheap to ship...
Just don't think we have enough participating members...

... or maybe I just got my panties in a bunch this morning...
(just realized,... I just pissed all over the Seafoam post in the Rubberside this morning, too...) (I better go find something funny to post)...
 :-?...

Title: Re: World tour

Make up your mind... #1 or #2...  :o

Really, we have a long way to go before kick off.

Either we need to see about a months worth of travel in an area that will have promise to continue, or it'll just have to wait.

Not sure when the northern states close for the winter.  And when the southern frying pan goes from vaporize to tolerable.

I plan on riding till temps dip below 40 and the
monsoons return.
It does seem as if not many are that interested
and, that is too bad. That seems to be the
way it goes with most anything. Not enough
to go around. Hopefully more will decide to
participate and we can get it going. If not then
it may have to sit on the burner till next year. kim

Vers,
This is the first I saw this, I like it and would also like to take it for a ride in my backyard.
What if it had room for a flash drive? We all use computers so we could add pics and or info on each ride. Or google map files. The stories it could tell when it gets back home  :)

Have you thought about sending out a message to all of the registered members here? Maybe there would be more interested but they don't come to the Cafe so they wouldn't see it.

I Live on long Island, NY. How about some sort of message in a bottle?  I can finish the ride and toss it into the Atlantic ocean surf at Montauk Point.

someone would fill it up in a heartbeat, we got the net, plenty of space here.

You need to put your hand up here...

Z, while the cafe is full of routies, I don't think it would be seen any more.  I'll run a test and see.

Super, too random, it's meant to be a token of our solidarity.  Throw it in the ocean, you won't know where it is or who gets it next.

I'm in.  Am also participating in the KLR650 for hitting every state.  They have an idea  to carry around a gold and/or oversized replica of a doohickey (the bike's nemesis) which led me to think we could do a similar thing with this bike's nemesis (the cam chain adjuster).  Would be great if some machinist could whip out a facsimile about 5x bigger than the original.  Or even a whittler could make one out of wood.  Each rider or group could take a pic with the evil adjuster as it's transferred to the next.  Would be a great pic fest for the photo gallery.

surely the petcock is a bigger nemesis.   ;D

Hey! We kept my old petcock. I would happy to donate it to the cause!  ;D
