Title: New 2010 S40
Post by ziggy on 08/28/11 at 06:57:47

Hi everybody i'm new on this forum and i use my nickname ziigy on the forums. My wife and i are 55 and ride 25,000km a year.Shes rode on the back of my Roadstar for 4 years. She bought a Suzuki GZ250 2 months ago and put 4,000km on it but it just doesnt have enough power. She took motorcycle course and passed.I have heard a lot people say that the Suzuki 650 is not a good bike for trips and we ride a lot but hardly ever go over 60mph or 100kph so will she be okay on the 650 on long trips? She bought a new Black 2010 S40 .She is 5' and 110lbs so a bigger bike is not an option right now.

There are plenty of people that take the S40 on long trips. The stock tank only allows you to go about 100-125 miles before you need to stop for gas so plenty of time to stretch out. The main complaint about these bikes is the seat, some like it others don't.

Never heard of anyone who liked it, but some tolerate it. ;D ;D

One way to find out,....take a 50 mile one way trip, then you'll know.

Me,........50 miles is enough for me till break time. I love the small tank,....gives me a reason to stop ! ;)

Just got back from 125 miles - 35 - 65 mph the whole way. No problems keeping up with my husband's Boulevard M50. The tiny gas tank is a bit of a pain, but he keeps a trip odometer so I don't have to worry too much. Hope your wife likes the bike. It's taken me about two months to really *love* it but I'm sold now!  :)

I rode her S40 for 50 miles today and like the bike but hate the seat so i'm open to any suggestions for more seat comfort even if i have to change seats.I'll wait till my wife rides the bike but i cant see her liking the seat

Ziggy, you can start by trying the seat lift mod. This is where you raise the front of the seat mount by 1.5 inches or so. It's cheap and it definitely makes the seat more comfortable. It cradles you more as opposed to slipping a bit forward. Search for it in the technical section.

You'll basically need new bolts that match the size and threads, but a bit longer. You'll then need something to space out and lift the seat mount in the front. I used rubber stoppers and some washers. You'll have to drill through the rubber stoppers, which takes all of 2 minutes. The whole mod will only cost you 5 bucks maybe. I got everything from Ace. Good luck!

I'll try the seat mod first and see if it will do the trick so thanks

Depends on what she doesn't like about the seat.  I'm 5'2" about 115. I didn't like that it didn't "give" much. Plus it was ugly to me lol. First I bought some raw gel and cut the foam inside the seat and inserted the gel.  It was much more comfortable.  Later I bought a Mustang seat on eBay that I liked the looks of better and transferred the cover and innards, including my gel, to my stock seat pan.  There aren't a whole lot of aftermarket seat options for us, but there are mods that can be done and ways to help.
