Title: Removing tank/side logos (decals)
Post by built2last66 on 08/26/11 at 10:23:09

Hi, before I get started on removing my S40 air filter panel decals, my gas tank "boulevard" decals, and my rear fender Suzuki decal I thought I'd ask if anyone knew a good technique on how to do it without requiring a new paint job.. I might just leave the rear fender Suzuki logo :D

I didn't want to fool around with them too much, but it appears they're just stuck on there like a sticker.. so just peel off and use some finger nail polish remover to clean up the sticky residue I assume?

Thanks for any help in advance

Here's a how-to guide, but it looks like the pics might not be there anymore  :(

Thanks, I just searched for "decals" and "logos" I didn't know they were called badges..

I don't see any pics but I have a 2005 with the raised badges so hopefully it should be no prob..

I don't know if I'd use fingernail polish remover for the leftover glue. May damage paint. I would use something a little less toxic. Goo-Gone, for instance. Citrus has got to be less harmful than Acetone, I would think.

I've used finger nail polish in the sunlight before to clean up my gas tank, it gets the gunk off then evaporates almost instantly.. it's a little trick I have... everyone says not to do that but I'm just looney

Whatever works I guess. I hear crumpled up tin foil will shine the heck out of chrome, too. Who'd have thunk?

Someone on here suggested using a penny to clean off minor burnt on gunk off of a chrome muffler.. worked for me as well

WD-40 will loosen up the sticky stuff too, and won't hurt the paint.

Using a blowdryer to soften up the adhesive always works for me when removing vinyl and other stickers, badges, ect.doing annual safety inspections on trucks and trailers normally requires that I remove government stickers which are stuck on in a serious way due to tamper proofing.many times the previous mechanic has applied the sticker to the fender of a new truck,I first heat the sticker up and peel it off, then I use "quick start" (a.k.a ether) to remove the leftover adhesive. The ether leaves the leftover adhesive in a soft state that you can normally wipe away with a rag.I've never had any staining or paint damage when I've used it,but I suggest you try it in an inconspicuous spot first.I've also read that you can use fishing line to separate badges.

Yeah I use lighter fluid. Works great, super quick and doesn't seem to do any damage at all. I clean the paint after I remove the sticker goo.

Oh yeah, just a tip in case someone's reading this and going to remove their badges.. use threaded fishing line.. its really soft weave string and won't damage your paint.
