Title: STONE EMBEDDED IN DRIVE BELT
Post by Classic650 on 08/23/11 at 06:26:32

Hi Everyone,

The town laid gravel on the road I live on.  I just picked up a stone & it embedded itself in the belt.  It's sticking through both sides of the belt, but it's lodge in there.  The stone is barely visible on the inner side of the belt, most of it is sticking through on the outerside.  Any advice would taking the stone out cause more problems to the belt or should I replace the belt?  Which is the very last resort.  Of course leaving the stone in could wear on the sprockets.  I guess the best thing to do would be remove the stone, but can the hole be repaired where the stone is?

Thank you

I have had big ones go thru my belt,...scarrrrrrry ! One stayed in,....I thought I lost the tranny ! But the little I know, a hole in the belt won't hurt one bit. If it was me, I get it out. Being the hole is cosmedic only, fill it w/ one of several rubber fillers out there,....if you'd feel better

i found 2 or 3 stones jammed thru my belt at last tire change.  they were completely "flush" with the belt teeth on the inside - pushed through the outside a few mm.  i pushed them out (to the inside) with a screwdriver or something.  i have no idea how long they were in there - over 1500 miles since with no problem

I'd push it back the way it came. At least it wouldn't damage the cords any further, whereas pushing it the other way might widen the hole.
