Title: K&N Air Filters and sealing them...
Post by built2last66 on 08/13/11 at 13:19:21

Just got my K&N Air Filter and K&N Sealing Grease... is there anyway to tell if you have it sealed correctly? I slathered the lip of it, installed it, fired it up and drove it to the store and back. Nothing unusual happened.

The instructions don't really explain much about sealing it.

Don't need much grease at all- just a very light coat. If you use too much it can get sucked into the carb where it may (or may not) cause trouble.

On the air filter instructions it says "put a few drops on the lip" but on the air filter sealing grease tube it says "apply liberally to the lip"... uh.... hello K&N? :-?

Maybe the guys who make the grease want you to use more so they can sell more. ;D

Naw, actually they are hoping for a reserve of oil to wick out of the grease into their cotton filter fabric to keep the oil/dirt attraction action going a little longer ....

Is the grease red by any chance?   If so you need to Ask Bill About It.
