Title: Visor Fogging
Post by Angie on 08/12/11 at 08:16:47

I know this topic has been covered, in fact I think I asked this same question last year.  But, I've tried countless products that are supposed to keep my helmet visor from fogging up but havent found anything that works.  Suggestions?

I never had much luck with those products either in the past, so I use to just "crack" the visor enough to let some air circulate through.  :)

Yep, cracking it open a notch works best for me too.

Someone, maybe Skat, suggested lemon pledge, like you use to dust the furniture.  I have not tried it, but I was going to.

I do like the others, crack the visor for a little air flow.
Few years back on the Rebel forum, they suggested
a product called "cat litter." No it is not the same as
what an actual cat uses to cover their poop and pee..
Not sure if it works as never tried it, I have tried other
products and not found any satisfaction in them.
Let us know if you find something that actual works.. :) kim

Actually I have more probs with the outside of my visor fogging when Im riding through, well, fog.  Here in Iowa sometimes its in the 50's in the mornings but with enough humidy that we get fog.  It drives me nuts to have to keep wiping my visor off.  Might try the Pledge.  Although I do have a cat, hence plenty of cat crap, Im NOT trying that even if it does work.  ;D

Oddly enough toothpaste. I use it for my Scuba gear. the make expensive pastes that do the same. The fluoride is the magic ingredient. ( I think)

This is a huge deal when scuba diving and we use a defog gel or johnson and johnson no more tears shampoo.  Rub it on and dunk the mask in fresh water real quick....I wonder if you diluted the shampoo and spray it on the visor and wipe of will it leave a thin film that will help defog?  Might try it.

In terms of motorcycles I have a scorpion helmet with their proprietary something or other on the visor....never has fogged on me.  Maybe their visor can be installed as a replacement on you helmet?

Their is a finger wiper thingy.. I haven't seen em, but
have heard about them. From what I gather, it slips
over your glove and it will allow you to wipe your visor.
Maybe check into something like that.
Anyone else know what I am describing?

This is on the inside

I'll give the soap or the spit method a try.  Like I said, its the outside of the visor that I have the most trouble with.  In the mornings, its cool enough that esp in the low lying areas there is fog and it will blurr the outside of my visor.  I like to be able to see where Im going, Im just kind of particular that way.   ;)

If it's condensation on the outside then there are some ski glove makers that have the rubber wiper attached to the outside of the glove. On the pair I have it is unfortunately on the right glove which is usually on the throttle... :)

I've seen them in catalogs. Basically a mini-wiper on a rubber "ring" that slips over your glove's index finger. I always meant to get one, and I only remember it when I'm ridin' in the rain.   :-?

Guys in my hockey league use shampoo on the visors.

It is my understanding that you can use shampoo or dish soap by rubbing it on and buffing it off the inside. I use rain X on the outside, but it says to not use on some plastics, so I gave it a shot and it worked. I have an open face with full visor. It never fogs except when I wear my balaclava. I only have to pull it until my mouth is not covered. When it is covered it fogs right up.

Never tried 'em myself, but these nice gloves (http://www.aerostich.com/aerostich-elkskin-roper-gloves.html) come with a visor squeegee on the left (non-throttle) thumb.

IHTH someone!
