Title: rear tire hitting sadelbag braket bolts Post by Raider91606 on 08/10/11 at 12:21:12 i bought a new tire its getting eat up by the bolts from saddel bag brakets. tire guy says its not his prob. we put 140 x 90x15 is that stock size old tire did not hit and was stock. has anyone had this prob? and what is stock size? |

Title: Re: rear tire hitting sadelbag braket bolts Post by EJID on 08/10/11 at 12:51:31 The 140/90-15 is NOT the stock size, it is one size up and more available at better prices than the stock 140/80-15 (IIRC). Many users on here have replaced the back tire with a 140/90-15 and have no problems. Others have had to replace the side rail bolts with lower profile button head bolts. (Usually only those who have saddlebag brackets have an issue.) I have and 05 and mounted my saddlebag brackets between the fender and the side rails and used button head bolts to remedy my very same problem. |

If youve got it set to light it will let the fender compress more so the bolts rub on the sidewalls. Im fine on setting 4 by myself but if i take a passanger the bolts rub now. Need to find me some button head bolts. |

I carried an adult passenger without tire rub. Wolfman gave another good pointer to check the shock setting. |

Some people have problems with bolts rubbing yet others don't. Before I bobbed mine, I had the 140/90 put on and had the OEM saddle bag brackets mounted per Suzuki instructions and didn't have any problems with bolts rubbing the tire. I weigh 150 and carried passengers weighing the same with shocks set at 3. |

Title: Re: rear tire hitting sadelbag braket bolts Post by weracerc on 08/18/11 at 08:16:15 I just fought this problem last week - went from stock 140/80-15 to 140/90-15 - bag brackets were mounted inside fender with std hex M8 bolts.......the left side back bag mount & bolt head ate the edge of my tire - I subsequently removed the bag mounts - drilled the blind hole that was causing the problem - re-installed the bag brackets on the outside of the chrome side rails....used 5/16 x 2 carriage bolts for the front bag bracket hole and the front side rail mount hole - no more bolt heads inside my fenders......i will take pictures at lunch and post them |
