Post by sillydilly on 08/07/11 at 14:36:17

plan on powdercoating that little shift fork cover, but when I pulled it off I had a C-clip and a washer that I dont know where they came from and if they are supposed to be there... this is how it looked when i popped off the cover

The seal is pressed in. Normally it cannot be removed without damaging it. That lip that makes the seal often gets damaged by small dirt just by pulling it off the shaft. It's better to replace it.

I think the ring and washer belong right where they're at.

maybe ill just aerosol clear coat rather then powdercoat it then

that c clip and washer are what keep the gear shift shaft from sliding outward once the cover is back on.  looks like the c clip is in the right position, in a groove on the shaft, and the washer will slide up against it when you put the cover back on.

btw, your picture may have solved my shifting problem!  if you still have the cover off, can you confirm that there is no gap underneath the head of the circled bolt?  thanks a lot.
