Hello,
Probably i won't ask smthg new but the last 3 days when my Suzie is cold the starter kicks but i do not have the ignition sound and ignition right away but a noise from it. Then after a couple of tries it starts and does not do it anymore. I also
noticed that my front light slightly flickers -not that much-. Now it is not such big problem but i want to prevent. My 1st prediction is that i have to change the spark plug since i also have the infamous oil leakage ;) and after 2.000km with it might have more oil on the spark plug.
The battery is new btw.
Is it tough to check the starter alone in case it is needed?

Charge the new battery overnight with a 1.5 to 2.0 amp motorcycle charger, then try starting it again.

probably should clean your ground connection to the motor.

How many miles are on it? I went through starter problems when I 1st inherited my '87. It only had 9000 miles on it, but the starter was TRASHED internally. I had new battery, checked ground, solenoid, wiring, everything. When I finally pulled the starter and the case, the pads inside were in 1000 peices. I aquired a used starter, and Vroooom. No problems with that ever since.

around 30.000km on the speedo ;) How much did the strarter cost? or did you repair the old one?

Highlander, I actually got the used starter from someone on here really cheap--I think I just paid shipping? It wasn't much whatever it was. Yes you can check it off the bike. Get a good hold on it, ground it and hook pos terminal to battery. It will kick in and spin. You will be able to hear and feel if it is spinning smoothly, or grinding. That's what prompted me to pull the starter case off in the 1st place.
