Title: 1st annual Dash and Dip
Post by verslagen1 on 08/02/11 at 11:47:05

With all of the new members in my area, it's time for a meet and greet.

And there's a road I haven't traveled yet, east fork road (11miles).
It'll take about half of the SR39 (22miles) to get there and a third of the Glendora mtn road(22miles) to get back, or we could do all three for some real mountain mileage.

http://www.motorcycleroads.us/roads/ca_efr.html

In the past, it's been a wrench and ride w/o the ride.  So this year it'll be just a ride.  If you have a little tuning to do, great, we'll see what we can do.

Meet in the morning, tune, ride, then for those about to boil over I have a pool to cool our tootsies in.

I'm thinking last weekend in august.  What say you?

Yup, next family visit to SoCal I'm going to get out there -- it's been too many years since I rode Glendora Mountain.

Roads like that are why I wasn't all that impressed by the Dragon!

Until someone says when they are available... either day, but I'm leaning to sunday so I can go to TRW if I need something.

And since I haven't been yet, I'm planning to go in a couple of weeks to make sure it's open and/or still there.

DrH, look me up when you're down here, we'll have another meet and greet.

Mine is in pieces right now, but when I put it back together (hopefully next month) I'd be ready for a ride.

Talked to my neighbor who's a long lost HS buddy.
This is one of his regular rides.
he says hwy 39 is open to crystal lake.  I've never been, it's always been closed.  we gotta go before a fire closes it again.

And east fork road is open and so is glendora mountain road.

Any sunday... except this weekend.  I gotta keep an eye on pops this weekend.  He blew a fan belt coming out to see me then blew his head gasket cause he didn't notice.  So we're taking the camper off the bed so he can put in a 'newer' engine.  It's a tag team sorta thing, brothers doing that... too many cylinders and arrainged in a vee for me.

Sunday the 11th?

Just saw this thread and might be able to make the 24-25th - it would be great fun to ride with a few other singletons - have yet to see another savage/s40 at my usual haunts in the malibu canyons.
I would need to come over from santa monica area (no problem for the bike but my backside is another story...).

Well, I'm in no shape to ride, I've a backup bike.  But reaching up and grabbing the handlebar is out of the question.

You guys are welcome to use my house as a rallying point, but next weekend is out of the question for me.

I'd say just take your time to get back in shape and we will do it together whenever you are ready - great thing about SoCal is there is no end to the riding season...
take it slow.

So, you did get all the insurance settled up or did you just go fix the bike yourself anyway?

Was that new engine hurt very much?

We met a Versys rider for the last pic.
On a beautiful day in SoCal.
Hwy39 up to Crystal lake 22 miles
halfway down to the East fork cutoff
11 miles up to Glendora Mtn Rd.
Then about 20 to Glendora and civilization.
The way home needed a turn I was unfamiliar with
So we stopped in the shade of a avocado tree to consult mr gps.
Out comes the owner to find out what all the racket was... Hey you ride bikes? I ride bikes... and we left with our pockets stuffed with avocados.

Pic's updated with names.

maybe, they're not eatin' ripe yet.

I may have to go back and count corners.
The upper hwy 39, east fork and glendora mtn were 'dragon' like roads.

Looks like you had a great ride, sorry I missed it. Had a little adventure of my own that day and wound up with this.... a friend just bought a new bike and it needed a home - and since I have ambitions to put my thumper under the wrench Ryca style it seemed reasonable to have an extra (or so I told my wife).
next time I will join you on something...
glad you are up and out Vers.

sweet, we'll have to do a vintage dash

Title: Re: 1st annual Dash and Dip
Post by surtees on 10/29/11 at 22:07:15

rides like a dream. stopping on the other hand is not a strong point - so my first task is an overhaul of the front brake system - the airhead forums are pretty good but I am really spoiled by this site and the savage community. a nippon/euro vintage dash would be cool when your new one is on the road.
