And I don't care what anyone has to say about it, I'm tired of burning holes in my motorcycle cover!  :D

I used the DEI titanium LR 15FT i wetted mine even though it said not required - was one of the easiest things i have ever done - yep no more burns, pants, boots, covers, etc...p.s. looks cool too - no more ugly discolored header.

I think I'm going with black, I read that 1" wrap is best used on 2" pipes...

Can you still get the chrome foot peg heat shield on with that wrap?

Looks good, I'm really sick of cleaning gunk off of my header pipe.

Wrapped mine around 9 months ago and its still going strong...cooked 3/4ths of the paint off the glass pack...its all good!

I used the 1" stuff and it worked fine.  Brown, but I dig that whole Rat-Rod look.  It does keep the heat off pretty well, but now my muffler is blueing up pretty quick!  C'est La-Vie.....

Wow that titanium wrap looks much better than the black fiberglass stuff I bought. Probably not as cheap though. I'll look into it.
Hmm. 2" wide x 15' roll, $20.67 - that's pretty cheap. I think I paid 30 for 25 feet, including the ties.

I like the fact that you don't need to spray it.

Just found this:
http://www.amazon.com/010129-Titanium-Exhaust-Header-Wrap/dp/B002R4U7G4

Sweet deal if you buy something else and get free shipping!

Somebody needs to start making stainless exhaust headers for this bike.
-- The metal does all kind of colorful things when it cools down after getting red hot.
-- The stock header weighs WWAAYY too much (triple-walled-tubing)
-- Thin walled stainless has an interesting "ping" to it as each exhaust pulse passes through
-- Different diameters would allow one more variable for "tuners" to vary things for cams, carbs, operating range (RPM), etc.
 -- No need for wrapping
-- Probably would be cheaper than replacing a stock header
-- Lower maintenance (no concern about bluing, etc.)

Smoke Stack I have to ask you to stop posting pics of your bike, it is too awesome and it hurts my s40's feelings everytime you pop it up here.

Should I go with 1" or 2" 15' titanium wrap? I want the original heat shield to fit back on and I'm using a Screaming Eagle muffler..

okay...who wants to look around and try to get a group buy thing going for some headers? If we can buy say..10 from a tubing company that does mandrel bends we could get some pretty cheap i'd imagine. Buyers would have to make up a flange but thats not much of an issue. Maybe Verslagen or EdL would sell batches?

What are you talking about, header pipe to muffler adapters? If so, you can get those at a muffler shop custom made in about 2 minutes.

Thanks!  I'm gonna get on the muffler (and probably the rest of the engine) come winter, I just haven't decided which way I'm gonna go yet.

No...im talking about a group buy of mandrel bent tube/pipe that doesnt have the measly stock ID of 1.3". A group buy a of custom made head pipes...with or without flanges to attach to the head. Without would be much easier to make happen but would require buyers to make their own. With...may be hard finding an outfit interested enough to bother. Or you can shell out the $500 for a raask if you've got it, but i personally am opposed to spending $500 on a raask or $300 or so dollars you'd get charged for a local shop to do a one off.....motolanna.com has nice pipes for the sr500 but it they wont work on our bike without being cut up and extended.

and you dont need to bother with the muffler shop for muffler adapters, just cut up a soup or soda can and make a shim.
