Title: Lowest profile, widest rr tire without mods?
Post by SoE on 07/30/11 at 08:22:46

I've seen a lot of posts about rear tires, but I haven't seen this combination: lowest profile with maximum width - without mods?

I don't think there's much option for low profile in a 15" tire...

What have you found?...

A Volkswagen tire?... not exactly low profile, definitely wide though... ;D...

160/60 -15...
No idea if it will fit... it'll sure throw off your speedometer... :-?...
Might look pretty cool, if it did... ;)...
Pirelli Diablo Performance Rear Scooter Tire ... (http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/5/32/404/5800/ITEM/Pirelli-Diablo-Performance-Rear-Scooter-Tire.aspx)

I doubt if it would clear the stock fender bolts...  I don't have the stock fender, so it might fit my bike...
Hmmm?...  I got some checking to do... ;D...

I had that 160/60R15 on 4 '' rim though. look:

It changed the transmission ration a lot. Didn't like it. Installed a big baloon, 160/80R15 instead. Much better. Still have the tire.

Thanks Dasch...  You saved me... ;)...

;) all for the team!

I am not sure this one would fit on stock 2.75'' rim though. we had problems fitting it on 4 inch, it's really low profile and stiff sided and actually built for 4.5 rim. And it looks kinda... Low.

I'm new to the Suzuki Savage but what would be the difference in the stock 140/80R15 and 160/60R15 in drivability?

Title: Re: Lowest profile, widest rr tire without mods?

160/60 gives you shorter gear ratio. It kinda pulls better, but you lose on the overall top speed in each gear. You shift more. Didn't feel right to me. I replaced it with MUCH taller 160/80. Plus, It was hard to mount it on 4inch rim, think it's nearly impossible on stock 2.75 one.

Was the 15x4 rim from an Intruder I think I'm gonna try it lol.  ;)

Intruder 1400, yes. Took me a while to find it. Hub is stock, spokes are stock. Wasn't hard at all.

SoE

Our Farmers Co-op sells "KUMHO" tires.   Well Kumho makes one called the Solus KH16 in 155/60R-15.

Sounds like just what your looking for.  I'll bet the Price is a lot less than most standard bike tires too !

Also I got 21,000 miles on the BFGoodRich Radial TA 155/80-15 tire I'm running now ,  its not wore out yet !    This summer's Dragon Run did it in though,  I let the air presure down to 30 instead of 38 and the cords have begun to seprate (shows up about 75 mph) but I'm still running it , just staying off the interstate.

;) Thank you! ...but please, I'll blush  :-[

Yes, 4'' intruder rim to stock hub and stock spokes. It was not that hard at all. An hour of google, hour of thinking, hour of work. Two guitar stands, two erasable felt tip pens and duct tape!! 6mm open end wrench. Beer. Cigarettes. And this:

Nice job, went to the junk yard and found one. Hope I don't mess it up  :-/

COOL!! Need advice, send me a PM or email at daliborschmidt@hotmail.com

One thing I forgot to mention: once you're done, all spokes will turn up about 2mm longer than they should be. Gotta cut them flush with nipples, for tube's sake. Angle grinder helps with that. I have no clue how that happens.

Ok thank you, I'm really excited to see how it looks with this size wheel!! Woohoo!!

Oh, it looks good! You going for 160/60 anyways?

Sorry for the delay, hurricane Irene was misbehaving. She made some nice surfable waves on Friday but Saturday and Sunday were pretty bad my car was halfway under water. Anyways, yes I'd like to go for the 160/60 tire

Post by dasch on 08/28/11 at 14:08:24

:) have at it. If you don't like it - 150/90 or 160/80 fit like a glove on that rim.

In the 160/60 tire they have a Michilin or Prielli I'm wondering which would work better.

Title: Re: Lowest profile, widest rr tire without mods?
Post by dasch on 08/30/11 at 12:01:24

Mine is... can't remember, I think pirelli. Look, you want me to see if I can arrange something and send you mine? It's gonna be cheap + shipping. I only put about 100miles on it and ditched it. So you try it out without burning too much money.

Cool! Cool, rusty project! Look, I'll see how I get it to you and how much it'll cost. Can you PM me your address, please. Tire is actually Dunlop sportmax or something.
