Title: Will I need to rejet and is this kit good?

So, I'm gonna put on a new muffler. I'm also going to put on a K&N ( either drop in or cone )

I'm guessing this will mean I need to rejet.

If so, is this rejet kit any good?

http://www.chaparral-racing.com/Product/dynojet-intake-performance-kit/340-9308.aspx?year=2005&make=SUZUKI&model=BOULEVARD%20S40

54 bucks.

I'm also trying to decide if I should go for the stock K&N replacement or if I should bother with a cone. I guess the cone looks more cool. I'm heading down the bobber path atm though, so would the stock airbox be in my way? I have to admit, I like the idea of just dropping in the new filter. Thoughts?

Details
•Maximizes carburetor performance
•Includes step-by-step instructions
•5% boost in horsepower
Use with stock air box

I don't think you should buy this kit if you are swapping out the air filter to a less restrictive one.  It wouldn't supply the fuel it needs when running less restrictive breather and muffler.

I'd change what you're going to change, then see how it runs. If it appears to be running excessively lean, go buy a 150 and a 155 main jet,.......if it has a 145 now.

Yes,... you'll need to rejet, to get best performance from upgrades...
Just adding parts to increase breathing will gain nothing in power, and make you run lean....  you must account for the increase in breathing, with an increase in fuel flow...
Power has a price,.. it costs fuel...

Dynojet just complicates things,... if you're new to this, just bump up your stock jet sizes... much simpler...

The stock box K/N filter will breath better than a cone... (more surface area)...
... a cone is a cosmetic upgrade... (it may breath better than stock, but not as well as a K/N in the stock airbox)...

If the muffler you buy is too open,.. jetting will be tough... and you'll probably to go 3 or 4 steps larger... this will get you max HP, but at the cost of low-end torque... Torque is power that you feel...
... If you're going to a well baffled, but better breathing muffler,... it's likely that about two steps up will get you in the ball park, if your jetting is fairly good for your location, now...

Individual jets are only $5 or $6 bucks each, and a needle spacer washer is a dollar at Ace hardware (#4 nylon/teflon)...

See my tuning post for details... ;)...

Sweet. Thanks all for the feedback.

Thanks for all the detailed info Serowbot and for the link.

I'll see how she runs after the new muffler goes on and go from there.
