Title: Diesel project bike on youtube Post by mmosel on 07/21/11 at 17:35:40 Have you guys seen this diesel project yet? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRadb91o-pc&feature=related This thing is pretty cool, gets amazing mileage and can run on pure bio-diesel. |
Title: Re: Diesel project bike on youtube Post by Grand Strand on 07/21/11 at 17:53:18 Now that is what I am talking about. A diesel thumper! I think that I just might have to do something like this Kubota Thumper. ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgFOt-aUG7o |
Title: Re: Diesel project bike on youtube Post by mmosel on 07/21/11 at 18:15:49 Yeah I would love a diesel thumper! If I knew more about fabricating and chopping, I'd build one for sure. Maybe someday. The singles get even better mileage bang. But not quiet the HP and acceleration. I think they are pretty slow on the take off. Maybe if they made a bigger diesel thumper engine, like 800 ccs? That would rock. |
Title: Re: Diesel project bike on youtube Post by Max_Morley on 07/21/11 at 18:34:37 CA outfit is converting KLR Kaws for the USMC to Diesel. I've lost the web site address for some reason, last time I checked they still had not released a Civilian version. Max |

It's Hayes Diversified Technologies (http://www.hayes-dt.com/). They've been making the bikes (essentially a Kawasaki KLR-650 with the Hayes-DT diesel thumper engine) for some time for the military (U.S. and NATO both). For a while they had pics of the planned civilian version named the "Bulldog" but I haven't seen those up on their site for a while. From what I can see, I like the design of the engine and the thing gets over 100 MPG. I'd be VERY interested in it if it gets produced for the civilian world. |
Title: Re: Diesel project bike on youtube Post by Serowbot on 01/31/12 at 07:31:55 I want one, so I can park it in front of cafe's and convenience stores with the engine running for 45 minutes... Diesel trucks are one of the reasons I cannot carry a concealed weapon... :-?... |

Title: Re: Diesel project bike on youtube Post by Savage_Rob on 02/01/12 at 08:45:24 The version in the back with the large stars and bars is the civilian "Bulldog" version they were initially expecting to be producing several years ago. Back in 2004, when I first started looking into this, they indicated the issue was keeping up with military orders before they could start up any civilian production. At this point, I doubt that's the issue any longer but I don't know what the hold-up is. Maybe just the economy in general. I wish they'd work something out with Kawasaki to market it as an optional version of the KLR-650. http://www.hayes-dt.com/press/Bon05__LARGE.jpg |

Title: Re: Diesel project bike on youtube Post by bikertrash on 02/03/12 at 13:23:35 I have to admit, I kinda like it. Not sure about the position of that key, however, if one were to slide off the front of the seat--OUCH. |
Title: Re: Diesel project bike on youtube Post by arteacher on 02/07/12 at 16:22:17 I was thinking on my way home from work today- has anyone heard of a propane powered motorcycle? |
