Title: Decent Price on Rear tire? Post by Routy on 07/21/11 at 07:04:17 As usual, me and search don't get along well,................. Could someone give a link to a decent price on a new rear tire. I either can't find our size (140/80, or seems like a herrendous price. The OEM tire brand would be fine. Thanks |
Title: Re: Decent Price on Rear tire? Post by Kaishaku on 07/21/11 at 07:14:23 On ebay currently there's a few offerings from Shinko and Kenda in 140-90-15 (a very common replacement size) for about $70 shipped. I've used both brands with success in the past and can't see paying $50 more for a "brand name." |
Title: Re: Decent Price on Rear tire? Post by AZSGT on 07/21/11 at 07:18:11 I just did mine a couple days ago. I went with a the 140-90 and in paid $120 at my local shop. Obviously Ebay has better deals. But keep in mind everyone is going to have a different price based on their location and installation charges, etc. |
Title: Re: Decent Price on Rear tire? Post by Routy on 07/21/11 at 07:31:29 Is there any problem w/ the 90 instead of the 80 ? I would rather have the smaller tho,........but a big difference in price |
Title: Re: Decent Price on Rear tire? Post by scottnj on 07/21/11 at 07:54:08 I just replaced my rear tire with a Dunlop K555 in the OEM size (140/80/15) last week. I paid $95 for the tire and dropped the wheel myself and took it to my local shop for mounting and balancing ($30). So total of $125 is what I paid. |
Title: Re: Decent Price on Rear tire? Post by Routy on 07/21/11 at 08:02:09 That is a good price on that tire. Care to share the link to it ? |
Title: Re: Decent Price on Rear tire? Post by scottnj on 07/21/11 at 08:23:44 I got if from Rocky Mountain ATV. Never posted a link before, but here goes: http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/productDetail.do?navTitle=Tires+and+Wheels&webCatId=8&navType=type&webTypeId=229&prodFamilyId=19453&listingId=&sizeAttr=5356 The 140/80/15 size is $95.99 including shipping. I ordered mine on Monday and had it Friday. I think I may have found a little better price somewhere on the interwebz, but I've had good experiences with Rocky Mountain ATV in the past so went with them. |
Title: Re: Decent Price on Rear tire? Post by scottnj on 07/21/11 at 08:32:19 Forgot that I also got a new tube for around $13, so that brought the total up a bit. Also need to get to $99 for free shipping from that seller, so I got the tube as well. |
Title: Re: Decent Price on Rear tire? Post by adj_jaker on 07/21/11 at 08:51:50 Glad you brought up the topic. I'm at 5K on my bike and I need a new rear as well. I thought they would last longer. :-/ |
Title: Re: Decent Price on Rear tire? Post by Arnold on 07/21/11 at 09:31:49 I'm almost at 5k on mine but the bike is pretty old with low mileage so I have lots of cracks and dry rot, same for front tire. I just bought a front today, the only white wall I could find in stock, Avon AM41 Venom WWW. Price: $117.12 plus tax and shipping. Ouch, but that's all I could find, Shinko 777 are all back order til august. |
Title: Re: Decent Price on Rear tire? Post by Jimmer on 07/21/11 at 09:47:12 Just put a Bridgestone S-11 rear tire, cost 78.00 and a front S-11, cost 61.00 rear is 140/90-15 front is 100/90-19. On for about a month and I really like then. These came from Rocky Mountain ATV. |
Title: Re: Decent Price on Rear tire? Post by MrBrownTX on 07/21/11 at 10:15:31 I have also found my best deal on MC tires at rockmountainatv.com so I am another vote for them. I was turned on to them at another MC forum. |
Title: Re: Decent Price on Rear tire? Post by scottnj on 07/21/11 at 10:25:04 I got about 6,000 miles out of the OEM rear. Should have been changed at 5,000, because it was downright scary when I took it off. I did the front at the same time -- not a lot of treadwear but there was a lot of cracking. |
Title: Re: Decent Price on Rear tire? Post by Arnold on 07/21/11 at 10:40:10 Yea, it seems cheaper tires crack before they wear. Maybe I dont ride often enough... |

I don't ride mega-miles so I didn't spend a huge wad on tires that will have a tread outlive the life of the rubber. I put on a pair of Shinko 712s and I've been real happy with them over the stock IRCs. Been on there for 2 years so far, no signs of checking at all, but I keep my bike in the climate controlled garage year round too, including the 4 1/2 months it sat during winter. |
Title: Re: Decent Price on Rear tire? Post by Arnold on 07/21/11 at 12:26:53 Yea, mine sleeps outside, in winter I put on wood blocks but NY is pretty brutal. To think of it though, my car sleeps outside too and those tires are not cracked. |
Title: Re: Decent Price on Rear tire? Post by Routy on 07/21/11 at 13:22:14 Thanks all,.......and for the Rocky Mountain link. A Dunlop is on order. I elected to pay $7 shipping. |
Title: Re: Decent Price on Rear tire? Post by serenity3743 on 07/22/11 at 05:19:16 I usually find decent deals on Dunlops at American Motorcycle Tire on-line. The K555 comes in stock size for the Savage, and I think it's the D series (maybe 404?) that works for the front. Interestingly you will find that the Savage rear 140/80-15 is the same identical size as the Honda Pacific Coast 800. That might expand your search options. |
Title: Re: Decent Price on Rear tire? Post by Boofer on 07/22/11 at 11:02:05 140/80-15 Dunlop K555 $94, Metzeler tube with 90 degree stem $20, Main Street Cycle, Tishomingo, Ms. March 2010. |
Title: Re: Decent Price on Rear tire? Post by Wolfman on 07/22/11 at 14:11:31 Put a 140/90/15 Duro on mine early last summer. Is wearing well and has pleanty of grip. Got mine through a local shop and had it balanced and put on plus tire cost and new tube with 90 deg stem for about $85. Ill be putting a duro on the front soon. I ride all year long. Routy, the 140/90 will make the speedo quit lieing. With a 90 if it says your doing 70 your doing 70, not 65...lol |

Title: Re: Decent Price on Rear tire? Post by stinger on 07/23/11 at 03:44:46 there is a motorcycle dealer in Vancouver Washington called Pro Caliber that sells the best price motorcycle tires you can find. If I remember, every one else wanted like $120 or more for a Dunlop 404 rear tire and balancing. Pro Caliber sold me mine for $65. They ship also. Check out their website for prices. |
