Title: Can't Locate 2007 S40 Oil Drain Plug
Post by frankg on 07/20/11 at 11:41:00

Are there any good photos, or illustrations, that show where the oil drain plug is for a 2007 S40? I've seen some text that says where it is, but I'm still having trouble finding the darn thing. HELP!!!

Looked at that posting "Oil Change Time". Looks like the drain plug is between the engine & the frame. Is that right??

As you can see in this picture, it is in the front almost right behind the left front peg. (picture is taken from the front of the bike)

For future reference:

I had my bike  (see my signature) on the lift a while back and was able to get a good shot of the oil drain plug:

Find it with your eyeballs, then go to the other side & reach under the bike, hang the wrench on it so its pointed to the front tire, drive down,,

I changed my oil this evening. I think it would be great if the pic that Digger posted could be added to the main oil change thread. It gives a much better perspective of where the plug is.  I was glad to find it, so thanks Digger.
Oh, my '06 took the 14mm wrench.

Turn the front wheel to the left and lie down on the leftside of the bike with the wheel behind your head. There it is. If you are left handed, sorry. Adapt and overcome. I use a ratcheting wrench and just bump it tight with my left hand. Only takes a bump to remove.

Also, if you want, look at the right side of the bike where the oil filter is. There's a ridge on the side cover running from the filter area to the bottom of the side cover. There's a bolt at the end of that ridge. If you remove that bolt, it drains some of the oil filter cavity so there's a little less mess when you go to change the filter.

Oh, and since the main drain hole is horizontal, the oil will pour out slightly to the side instead of straight down, so make sure your catch pan is in the right place to allow for that. Since the bike is lower to the ground than most purpose-made catch pans, I use a large cake pan.

I used one of those plastic pans they give you in the hospital!  It even had little ounce markers on the side.

I also have a retired cake pan,

A regular oil pan for cars works too.
