Hello everyone.

I learned a big lesson because of a silly mistake. A couple of months ago, I was moving and I had my S40 loaded in the back of a 24' moving truck. I had it strapped in very well, but, I accidentally left the kickstand down for only a little while, and well, it totally bent the kickstand. Oops.

Fastforward.. I've got a replacement kickstand and I've started to replace the bent one. I was able to get the springs off, and the nut on the bolt that holds the kickstand in its holder. After I took that off, I tried to hammer out the bolt, thinking it would simply slide out. But it didn't. I removed a little plastic cap on the outside and there is a reverse or inverted nut shaped hole on the bolt. I don't have a tool to fit it, but I'm not even sure if I need one or if this bolt is simply supposed to hammer out? I'm hoping someone around here has removed or replaced a kickstand from its metal holder. If you have, and can tip me off on how to get that bolt out, I'd very much appreciate it!

I can take pics if that would help, just say the word....

I've never done either, but it sounds like it's an allen key socket.
you'll need a set any way.

Yeah it is bigger than any allen wrench I have. I guess I'll have to get a bigger set. There is a smaller one inside of the bigger one, but I think it's too small to use effectively.

I still hope to hear from someone who has done this replacement or maybe has just taken one off for whatever reason. I'm not even sure that the other end unscrews or not...

Well, just like most things mechanical, the right tool makes the difference.

I got the right sized allen wrench and it came right out. Although I am a novice motorcycle mechanic, I've used allen wrenches hundreds of times. I just never had one that big before, so it didn't click. Although it's not THAT big.. was an 8mm. They do sell a 10mm at Ace and I imagine even bigger (elsewhere) for specialized applications.

Anyway, my bike is very happy now with her new kickstand. I can ride now again.

And I finally have an actual garage, so now I can start tinkering with her to try and tune her up for better performance. AND I can work on her on rainy days and during the winter. Awesome!

Yes, garages make wrenching a pleasure. Glad you got the new stand on. I also was a newb at working on them but with the help of this site I have replaced the box brake light, moved regulator, adjusted valves, removed wheels, white spacer mod, rejetted, and spliced wires. Removing the carb made me nervous but it was really easy. Good feeling when it started right up. 8-)

Oh that's great!

My to do list:
K&N Air filter
Probably replace the muffler - looking at a Emgo Shorty Reverse Cone.
( I saw a vid on youtube with this one and it sounded sweet, but I've read they are super loud. I want a nice low strong sound, but I don't want it overly loud. )
Adjust the carb. ( I still haven't done the turn out mod on it )
A little reluctant about having to rejet, I have no clue about it yet.
I'm also clueless about adjusting valves, but I'd like to learn.

I'd like to replace the headlight, the mirrors, maybe the grips. Perhaps turn signals. Might also consider changing the handlebar riser. Might consider some sort of seat mod at some point. My bike is black. I might consider a minimal paint mod, maybe a very dark smoke silver stripe down the middle of the tank.

I like the look of a bobber/cafe racer, but I'm not sure how far I'll go down that road yet. I want to customize it a little to start, make it perform even better than it already does (which has always seemed great to me ) and hopefully not spend too much money along the way.

Yeah I know they aren't the same thing. But I like a hybrid of the ideas behind both. Is a hybrid possible? Yes, sure, why not lol. Would I pull off a real hybrid? Not likely.

I will prob go towards a bobber first, because it's cheaper. I wouldn't mind having a full on bobber and then also having a Ryca type cafe racer. But that dream of both is a ways off ;)

Ahh gotcha, they have to be hosted elsewhere. I can understand that.

Might be good if the attach/browse field was removed or hidden from the post page. Just a thought. Super simple to hide it.

Cool idea. I don't like some of the proportions on this one, aesthetically, but having something like that stripped down to minimums, and then the seat/tank/bars rearranged to create a lean and functional look would be a neat project.
