Title: Just checked the air in my tires...
Post by Serowbot on 07/16/11 at 12:58:08

24lbs rear,... 0 lbs front...

This tells me two things...
a. I should check my air more often...
b. I have the sensitivity of a warthog...

In my own defense,...
I did notice that was a particularly soft ride yesterday... :-?...

Look on the bright side, the front tire gets to have brand new fresh air in it!

You will find a reward in your drawer for figuring that out.

Does anyone know how to get access the rear tire air valve?

I cannot get an "air head" on the valve due to the tire spokes getting in the way!

[quote author=4A5D485D405A5F2F0 link=1278270387/0#0 date=1278270387]i just seemed to have developed some pretty nasty speed wobbles that start at about 75-75mph. any insight on this? its freakin' scary and potentially dangerous. also, i put new tires on months ago, but this hasn't happened til now.

I had the same on my trusty old Moto Guzzi V50, the front fork stems had worn and the oil/compressed gas in the individual stems were at different levels.
In other words, the two stems of the front fork had different stiffness, so any time you bump into anything bigger than an ANT the front fork will twist and the wheel will wobble.

Else, I have Avon Venom front/rear, have ridden a mere 5000 miles in 4 years (been stationary far too long) BUT they are excellent value for money (IMHO)
because they are high performance tires for high-performance bikes (100++bhp), fit them on a 30bhp bike and they should last a long time and a half.  :)
My tires look like new, and hold the air pressure quite nicely.

PS small tip for that rear tire air valve, I bought an "L" adapter from  British supplier called "Holden"
cost GBP 3.95+VAT = US$ 8 more or less

http://www.holden.co.uk/default.asp?mode=bike

but now checking for air isn't the pain it used to be !

I checked my tires with four different gauges and got six different readings. So your zero could be an error.

I feel kinda deflated after reading this thread.

Buy a tube with a 90 degree stem installed to the right.

Gotta roll the bike so the valve stem is at the rear of the bike, & go from the starboard side. Im pretty satisfied with the long air chuck with 2 air outlets, & thres a 'truckers" pressure gauge, I like it , too, but, with the stem at the rear, about anything will work.

Front tire 0 ? You'd think that would feel worse than "a little spongy".  I had a flat on the rear once and didn't know it . I suspected something was amiss when I couldn't coast very far. It was almost like I had the brakes on.

Anytime I have ever had a sudden flat on a bike at speed, it almost tossed me off.  Things usually get REALLY sporty when you get down below 20 or so.

Thanks for the great ideas for getting at the rear tire valve!

I am going to look for the 90 degree stem at my local shops and the next time I change tire I will ask for a 90 dgree stem.

Again, Thanks!

I read 0 on my rear tire a week ago. It didn't look bad at all!! Strange.

I rode about 40 miles on a tire ( rear) with a ripped tube. I spent about 15 bux on fix a flat,, I noticed that it ode okay in a straight line at about 70 MPH. The tire was pretty new, so it had plenty of rubber on it to make it stiff,, When it started feelin really scary at low speed, Id stop &  pump more fixaflat in,, most of the trip was open road, thankfully.

I just realized my bike has South Carolina air in the front and California air in the back. That's got to cause some handling problems.   ;D ;D ;D

I think you got the best of both worlds myself.
Cal air, strong, healthy, laid back attitude... just what you need in a rear tire, on the ground and taken a strong bite out of the asfalt.
SC air, twitchy, don't know which way to go, but wanting to.

;D
