Title: Clutch Cover Gasket - Permatex or no?
Post by adberns on 07/15/11 at 15:05:36

This weekend I'm hoping to get everything put back together on the Savage.  We bought a new gasket for the clutch cover, since we destroyed the old one getting it off.  I notice the new one has some gray material up where this site says to add Permatex.  In the Clymer manual, it says you only have to put Permatex there if there isn't gray stuff already there.

So, should I add Permatex to the gasket, or just put the new gasket on?

And if I should add Permatex, any reason I can't use Ultra Black instead of Ultra Gray?

No added rtv required, if fact grease one side so in the future if you need to open it up the gasket will release easier.  some use chapstix.

verslagen, is there anything you don't know about these bikes?  :)

You and this entire board are a huge lifesaver.

+1

I used the exact same gasket you mentioned with the gray rubber beads.... it sealed good with no leaks so far after a couple hundred miles.  :)

+2 no leaks after almost 2k miles also the ultra grey is preferred over the black because it won't stand out as much if you should need to use it anywhere like the head cover
