Title: Finally Employed!!!!
Post by T Mack 1 - FSO on 07/13/11 at 18:39:41

Well,  after months of unemployment, I am once again joining the ranks of the working.  It's been 8 months, the longest I've ever been unemployed (downsized Dec 3rd 2010).

This afternoon Mack Trucks called offering me a position as an entry level Production Technician.  YEA!!!!!!   I start Monday.

The plant is about 5 miles from my house.  The closest to home that I've ever worked (one of my goals in life is to get closer & closer with each new job).

I've been sending out at least 3 resumes a week to jobs I know I can do (many weeks more).  Going to the State & Privately funded facility (PA CareerLink) that  helps  people get jobs.  Sat thru boring weekly meetings where they kept saying the most un-rehired group was the 45-55 year old males.  Somewhere around 5% getting rehired..... worst they ever seen.  I'm 52.....

It's a big relief!!!!   Not sure if you can see me dancing from where you're sitting.   ;D

Great. And yes, we understand. You may even get to go home for lunch. That is really great when working. Again, good luck.  Boofer ;)

A 5 mile commute -- perfect for a Savage!

Congrats!

(And it's sure gonna feel good actually putting a full tank of gas into the bike and not just draining the hoses on the pumps...)

Good goin!
Watch out for that gasket on the oil pump. It can be put on a few ways, only 1 is right, dang, been years, mite be pump, mite be filter,, heck,, I cant remember, I just know it was very stressful.. & the exhaust manifold requires a special wobble socket on one end, one bolt,, you dont have THAT socket, youre not putting that thing on.. Ive got one,, Ill likely never use it again.

Congrats!  Short commute to work makes for alot more riding opportunities, even if they aren't long rides.  And keep us posted on how the job goes along.

Congrats TM! How appropriate was it that you landed a job with Mack Trucks?

Enjoy the rides to work and back on those beautiful roads 8-)

So you'll be the guy removing the Volvo stickers and adding Mack stickers...  ;)

Justin, the Thermodyne series engines have been obsolete for a long while now, Cummins, Detroit or rebadged Volvo engines in most now. Caterpillar is gone too.

Congrats on the new gig. Wish I had a 5 mile commute.

I have a 5 mile commute as well. Some days it's almost not worth getting geared up to take the bike in. It takes me longer to get my gear on than it does to do my hair! ;D ;D

You do your hair before your ride?.... Why???   ;D  That's what the helmet is for!  ;)  (joking)

I got about a 20 minute commute (30 if I go the long way!)  And I've thought that, but every time I ride I see why its worth it.  Takes forever to get the tangles out after the ride, but I do it as often as possible.

Ifd its only 5 miles to work, its not even getting warmed up, youll rot the exhaust off it,, ride further.

T-Mack,
Congrats one the new job. I found mine about a year ago. It is always a relief. While you’re at Mack think about how we could turn the “maxidyne” in to a monster “thumper.” I’ve always liked the old slow diesels, and would like to see about something on a bike someday! [ch61514]
[smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Best of luck,
Larry

Somewhere I saw that someone made a small diesel engine and put it on a bike (was that something Serowbot posted...... :-? )   I'm not sure I would want to put a clanking engine in between my legs.  I get enough noise already.

They are still using Mack engines & trannies made over in Hagerstown, MD.     I'm not sure how many other parts are Mack or Volvo. I do know Volvo made them go to SAP software and that made the prcoess slower for the Bill-Of-Materials guys.

Trust me (  :o ), after about a mile and a half the exhaust was warm.  Well,  the Harley SE turn-out I had on anyway.  The monster boat anchor Suzuki puts on might take longer.....
The Sportster I have now is about the same.  Mile and a half or so...

Kawasaki makes a diesel motorcycle. KLR style, used by Marines, or they used to. Never seen one in a DRMO auction...
