There's a 2008 S40 advertised on the Joplin, MO Craigslist for $4250, 100 miles, engine guard, looks real pretty. The KBB price is $2770 retail and $1870 trade in. How far off is this guy from being realistic? I'm just starting to look and need to get some idea(s) of realistic prices for used S40's.

Joplin, MO? Didn't they just have a big tornado there--wiped 1/2 the city off the map?
3 years old and only 100 miles? Hard to believe.
I'd say he's about $1500 too high.

I purchased two new 2009 S40s in Wisconsin from a dealership this spring for $5,500 (total price for both). I would keep shopping.

MSRP in 2008 was 4400. IMO, too high. You can probably fnd a leftover at a dealer for less than that. But I don't know your situation or prices in your are, so it's definitely up to you. No matter what you give, someone will tell you they saw one for $500 with 30 miles on it and new Corbin seat. ;D

Mojo, cheak out my post to jordan325ic a lil lower down on the page. Several good deals there on S40s here in MO.
4250 isnt a good deal, least wise not for this area.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm not quite ready to buy. Need to sell a couple of things to generate a little more cash and free up some storage space. My first thought about that ad was I could probably buy a new one for close to his asking price........I like cafdad's deal!
