My bike has the common plug cap leak and it leaves its mark where ever I park it. Last week I changed the oil and went with a pure synthetic, "optimized" for wet clutches, 20/50w oil. Since then I haven't seen one drop hit the ground. Its like 95 degrees here so I figured the heavier weight might be okay for the summer. Would it slow the leak down that much?

interesting, don't know why it would stop leaking for heavier oil.
oh wait a minute... in my oil comparison I found that 20w50 doesn't cool the head as well as 10w40. so I would think there's less oil flow to the head and it doesn't sit up there as long.

I'm at 10/40 and it'll stay that way, even when it's 100FH outside.

Was is called "V Twin high performance oil" and was it especially formulated for Hurley motorsickles ???

Wonder what ever the leak stop compound that they are using to plug up the endless hurley oil leakages is a gonna do to yer clutch plates over time?

yes, I really do wonder about stuff like that -- I've sanded several sets of glazed plates now and I think of that sorta thing while I am a sanding ....

I have always wondered why the ones that come on the list complaining about clutch slipping this and it won't disengage that always seem to be using 20w50 oil.

Naw, it's what -- $8.99 a single quart oil?

That's gotta be good stuff right?

It's gotta be almost half as good as Klotz at $12.99 a quart.

Or Royal Purple at $14.99 a quart

Or Amisol Super Excaliber at $15.99 a quart?

Now, you coulda gone and got you some really expensive energy star rated car oil that would get you some extra miles per gallon.

(sez so right on the bottle it does)

.... that is right up until your clutch got glazed over with the teflon/graphite/molysuperparticle little round ball bearing looking special molecule stuff .....

(done sanded one of those, too I collects dead clutches, you see)

And yes, you have done wandered into the no-man's land of the endless erl war and you have done asked the innocent question that always starts the fun up.

And now having read what's up above you got more questions you gotta ask because each one listed above is a different way to screw the pooch .....

I use Rotella and noticed two things, purely subjective. It runs quieter and leaks more. It's not turreble (As Charles Barkley would say), but it makes sense to me that the Rotella may scrub the "Grunge Gaskets" that build up and slow leaks. One thing I do know by seeing it is that it used a little Castrol Actevo oil, and almost no Rotella.

Well, it wasn't the HD v-twin stuff, but I sense that I've already careened off the cliff of the PRO (politics, religion, oil) war zone.

Bill the engine has more "seep" on the fins, but like I said it's not terrible. I don't lie, because I don't care what oil anyone uses as long as it works for them. Yes, the JASO oil got out somehow after a day of wicking. The Rotella is still good in the window, but the seep is more visible. As Justin says, "Just ride the thang." I ain't tearing it down until it's worth it to me. Bill, you may catch me in a mistake, a typo, or an opinion, but not a lie.
