Title: Petcock woes
Post by Mattdw on 07/07/11 at 10:49:52

Hi all,

I'm having an intermittent problem with my petcock. In the ON position sometimes it is not drawing fuel and the bike will die. If I turn it to PRI, it works all the time (which is good).

So, until I get a chance to open it up and clean/check the diaphragm, is it OK to run it in the PRI position all the time?

The float in the carb should prevent flooding, right?

Also, will the RES behavior be the same in the PRI position, or when I run out of gas in the PRI position, is the reserve tank empty too?

Many Thanks!

Matt

you can run it in PRI, just turn it back to ON when you shut it down.

and get yourself a Raptor.

On PRI, when you're out, YOU'RE OUT  :-[
(No seperate reserve tank, just a lower pickup point on the petcock)

i just installed a raptor PC on my bike..

night and day in reguards to fuel flow

bike 06 w/1600 miles(sat around alot)

i drained the tank using the PC on prime and a extra long hose to a gas can

TOOK FOREVER!

installed the raptor PC-easy as pie!

then i wanted to get an idea on how much fuel there is in RES with the new PC.

FUEL FLOW WAS FAST. obviously faster than the factory unit.

Mattdw, I refer you to "engine keeps turning off" further down the Rubber Side threads. We have three threads going right now that are probably the fault of the petcock.  ;) Ways to test and part number to fix cheaply.

I advise anyone who drains their tank on prime to take the cap off and cover with a towel to keep bugs out. Helps with flow if vent is a little tight.

This problem is getting popular enough,... it's time to write a song about it...

"The Petcock Blues"...

Da da dun' da dum... Woke up this 'mornin'...
da da dun' da dum... Smelled gas in my shoes...
da da dun' da dum...  My baby she's weepin'...
Got them leakin' petcock blues...

Okay,.. I suck... :-?...

Serowbot, I just sang that to my wife. She likes it.  ;D
