As mentioned in the link below the largest batt to fit was the 7. I read someplace else that the mini batt had to no taller than 4in.

Are there another dimension restriction on the battery?

Between those batteries 130 cranking and 210 cranking.130 probability want start it.

I would not go taller than the YTZ7S because it would hit the swingarm when the suspension is topped out. I think you could squeeze a wider and longer battery in there, but that would make it harder to install and remove. For example, the YTZ7S rubs the back tire as you are trying to angle it in there.. you have to think about the whole in/out path, not just the available space once it's in position.

For extremely small batteries that still have enough juice to start the LS650, there are lithium batteries from e-batt or turntech.. but if you go that route, get ready to fork over some cash.

Lol. Not this guy. Thats the reason I'm trying this battery out! I took it out of my busa, so it cost me nothing.

I have it mounted inside the factory batt box right now without the tool kit and cover. Works as good as the stock one.

I think the stock battery is 180 CCA, so 175 should be fine.
I'm looking at that battery too ;D

My stock battery out of a 2007 s40 was 220 cca.

SOOOOO! I started tinkering with this mod! HOLD THE PRESS!

Someone please tell me that there is another way to slide the (any) battery into this spot that doesn't involve lowering pipe hanger OR removing the belt cover to lower the pipe hanger!

The bike is ALL stock

I went with the YTZ7S. gotta chinese copy on ebay for $25. Works like a charm at a meager 130cca. First crank is a little slow once the temp gets to about 40 but it'll still start. Id recommend leaving your lights on for as short a duration as possible. Went chasing down a turn signal gremlin. After 20 minutes with the lights on trying to find it the battery would not turn the bike over. 5 minutes on a charger and it was good but... As far as trying cram in on the exhaust bracket...I fabbed a small battery box for the stock spot. I just wanted to clean up the area behind the engine and have a battery that would clear my bottom on my KN. If you're going bouletard's route the exhaust is going to have to come off one way or another, and positioning the battery will be easier from the exhaust side. You're going to have to drop the bracket to mod it anyway so you might just bite the bullet now.

I didn't take the muffler hanger off. Belt guards were off. I think I went in downward/forward from the left side, with the drive belt still on. I remember thinking it would be easier if the shocks were off and you could swing the swingarm out of the way.. but never had to do that.
