Title: Mid Mount Controls
Post by mojo on 07/02/11 at 15:40:13

Is it big deal to move or replace forward foot controls with mid mounted ones?  All the used Savages I've seen have them way out front.

tks.........mojo

There's no bolt-on kit or anything, but it's possible with enough fab skills.

Many of us would love to have them way out front. Where are all these bikes w/ Forward Controls way out front ? What is your definition of "way out front ?"

Mine are 6" way out there. Actually it's not as far as it sounds or looks, but it's as far as I would go on this bike. And it's way more comfortable than OE. Of course, I'm 6'1".

Anytime the foot pegs are in front of the engine, you have forward controls.   ;D  Some guys here have forward-forward controls.

Well if it really has FCs, shouldn't be any problem finding someone who will trade for OEM.

But OEM on the Savage/S-40 are forward controls. Any time the pegs are in front of the engine you have forward controls. Mid controls have the pegs somewhere next to the engine or transmission.

LS650s too, have forward controls.  Suzuki WANTED forward controls on the thing to go along with the "cruiser" persona.

I, too, would like to see something available for the LS650/S40 that would be somewhere between the psuedo-chopper location (stock) and rearsets.  The RYCA effort we are doing now is making me more and more intererested in this bike.  After finishing the RYCA CS-1, it would be cool to build something more like a standard bike than a cruiser.

I agree with MotoBuddha, a bike configured like a "standard" would have foot controls in a normal (meaning mid-mounted) position.

I really dislike "forward" controls after coming from standard and sport bikes.  Nothing to support your body with except your arms, cant raise up off the seat for bumps, train tracks, to stretch back, etc. without pulling the bars with your arms.

Forward controls you that tractor driving posture -- which is appropriate for Harleys.  ;)

You are correct. I had that problem so I put rubber knee pads on the tank. Now I can raise my posterior of the seat when I need to- sort of like riding English saddle. BTW that's why they were put on bikes in the first place.
