Title: Gas Cap Malfunction
Post by Classic650 on 06/29/11 at 19:06:02

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone have any experience with removing a gas cap that is stuck.  The locking mechanism isn't functioning.  Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

That didn't work, I think the spring might have broken or something because it's not turning all the way.

Did ya push down to take the load off the lock mechanism? Twist back & forth, center the locks up in their "spot" & push down, Then give it a go,, but dont bust that key off,,

The bike tech tried to remove it.  He said it's the latch which is catching & basically I need a new cap.  That'll be the route I'll take if Justin's suggestion doesn't work.

How you gonna' put the new one on?...
Is the old one off now?...

If it is,.. you can take it apart and clean and lube it...

The one on my 96 seems to have been affected by the fuel additives as it is difficult to remove even as the lock works fine, I have to wiggle it out of the tank. Need to scrape the plastic down some I guess. Have been driving the sidecar rig lately so it hasn't been an issue. Max
