Title: Exhaust wrap- I know it's been done 2 death but... Post by SoE on 06/25/11 at 15:11:44 It's been done to death, but not by me :) I had to do it. I got a HD muffler and put it on at the same time. I'm feeling a little bit of air where it connects. I think I need a more heavy duty clamp. I know, I know, the guard needs to go.... Anyway, I have a tank that's about to get painted in the next few weeks, and I'm looking at trailer fenders at Northern. Or I may rip Skeebo's killer fender cut! Either way the plate will move when the fender goes. Then there is the seat.... BTW, the verdict on the HD muffler -- its a lot quieter than I expected. Its deeper now, but not really louder (to me). It's a pretty nice sound though. http://www.sonofelvis.com/suzuki/Wrap.png |
Title: Re: Exhaust wrap- I know it's been done 2 death bu Post by WD on 06/25/11 at 17:16:44 Not bad. Now ditch the old joint cover and swing by Tractor Supply. Get a wide stainless strap clamp for a tractor exhaust. Kills the leak and smooths everything out. When they say they carry everything you need, they almost aren't kidding (don't sell guns/ammo)... :( |

Cool. I'm covered for those anyway ;) I gotta go by northern tomorrow. Think they have clamps too? |

Title: Re: Exhaust wrap- I know it's been done 2 death bu Post by justin_o_guy2 on 06/25/11 at 19:09:50 The bearing supply house in Longview sells those clamps. Loads less $$$ than TRactor Soupline. Ask for a t-bolt clamp. Google T-bolt clamp.. |

Nuthin. I really like the spring seats but I don't know if I wanna do that. |
Title: Re: Exhaust wrap- I know it's been done 2 death bu Post by WD on 06/25/11 at 19:56:14 3-4 inches I think. I just let the leak stay on mine, makes for better backfires. When the refurb is done I'll put the clamp on mine too. |
Title: Re: Exhaust wrap- I know it's been done 2 death bu Post by skeebo on 06/25/11 at 20:11:56 I'm thinking of replacing my homemade job with one of these...no springs http://www.lowbrowcustoms.com/images/products/detail_1540_west-eagle-tuck-and-roll-horizontal-solo-seat-photo-1.jpg http://www.lowbrowcustoms.com/images/products/detail_1382_west-eagle-tuck-and-roll-solo-seat-photo-1.jpg |

Title: Re: Exhaust wrap- I know it's been done 2 death bu Post by WD on 06/26/11 at 08:56:54 No, you need to use the front mount from the kit and fab up a rear mount. Discard the front u-bolt and bolt the clamp directly to your stock tank/seat mounting bracket holes, over the tank rear piece. |

xactly....I had this seat (or one like it ) in mind when building my rear fender. The shelf I frenched in gives me mounting options. http://a4.l3-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/139/f04286842d024edf84c7580d3faa32ee/l.jpg |
Title: Re: Exhaust wrap- I know it's been done 2 death bu Post by SoE on 06/28/11 at 19:16:33 Finally found a stainless exhaust clamp today and finished up the muffler/wrap. My nearest Tractor Supply did not have the clamp after all. I ran all over the place and finally found one at NAPA. It definitely looks "finished" with it. http://www.sonofelvis.com/suzuki/Clamp.png |
Title: Re: Exhaust wrap- I know it's been done 2 death bu Post by skeebo on 06/28/11 at 19:43:57 That looks perfect man, I'm runni'n the same muffler, I like it alot. The wrap is on the list for me, is that a 50' roll or was 25' enough. |
Title: Re: Exhaust wrap- I know it's been done 2 death bu Post by Scott2.0 on 06/29/11 at 06:31:30 Looks great. I'm running the same muffler and that's the exact clamp I've been looking for. Did you shim anything in between the muffler and header for a tighter fit or is the clamp enough to seal it up? Right now I'm running an automotive U-clamp and an assload of RTV which works but looks like crap. |
Title: Re: Exhaust wrap- I know it's been done 2 death bu Post by SoE on 06/29/11 at 07:33:28 Skeebo, 15' x 2" was BARELY enough. Scott, The clamp is the 2" UNFORMED. Its the one laid out flat in a plastic sealed package. They have another that is preformed that they brought out as the "same thing" but it isn't. it has a molded step down in the middle that makes one end a little bigger than the other. I didn't like it and it may have caused fit issues. It did require some shimming. I think its tight enough now, but we'll see. It slipped a little at first and I had to go back and mess with it. The bolts are crazy long for it. I may grab some shorter ones next time I hit Lowes. |
