Title: raking question
Post by dystormy79a on 06/23/11 at 00:30:13

while my bike is going to be down i was thinking about getting longer forks or fork extensions and raking it. has anyone ever done this or can put me in the direction i could look to find some info on it.

i am not afraid of cutting my frame. i trust my welds better than most i see :)

just looking for your opinion

thanks

Welds are one thing, keeping everything in proper alignment is another. You'd need a good stout jig.

How much do you want to rake it? Too much and you put a lot of strain on the forks.
Have you thought about a rake kit? Very expensive, but you can put it back to original if you want. http://www.chopper-kit-usa.com/suzuki-LS650-Savage.htm

I'm not saying I do, but do you realize how much the handling will change? Just throwing it out there for you. Yonuh would be a good one to ask. And he is not raving for everyone to do it. I figure he will give you good, simple unbiased advice. Give him a shout. He's been there!  :)

If youre gonna use slider type forks, how far can ya go before its simply not gonna work right? For extended forks, something other than stock style is needed. Slider forks will not work right once the angle is too great. I think its close now.  Ive seen guys with long front ends trying to turn around in a parking lot,, seems a bit strange to me to take something that is sporty & handles well & turn it into something that doesnt..
