Title: Raptor Petcock
Post by Z on 06/22/11 at 06:34:18

Raptor petcock is in! I haven't taken her out for a ride yet but she sounds pretty good so far. [smiley=laugh.gif] I hope this solves the problem.

Husband just took her out for a ride and said she ran just fine.  [smiley=laugh.gif]

Yep. So far so good. I'm hoping that the rain goes away so I can take her to work tomorrow. He was wondering if we needed to keep the fuel filter on or not. I think it shouldn't matter and I kind of like being able to see what's going on with the gas. ;D

Arrg !!  there Matey

We be expecting you to tell us the tale of the PROTRACTED execution of that gas theivin' stall causin' pure tee aggravating vac rascal now that you got him out of yer bilges and into yer brig all proper like.

Are you to be givin' him a trial?        <hee hee hee>

A trial would be nice, it would allow the last three vac petcock lovers to come forth to try to defend the sorry rascal or to make their puny offers to "rehabilitate" him (quietly add him to their stock of replacement sorry rascals as the case may be).

A trial would be fun, followed by the stacking up of the willowy faggots up around the well charred steak prior to the slow flame barbeque ....

;D   ;D   ;D

(ye gots to watch out fer them willowy faggots, they gets all excited when an execution is in the offering)

===================

Seriously now, you need to keep your big paper element filter in place, it stops a whole host of other problems that you never need to worry about with it in place.

Did your husband have to clear the float bowl or did everything work jest fine when the raptor went into place?

Perk up vac boys -- what I am really asking is "Was the vac petcock the sole major cause of all this bullshit that you had to go through?"

(gots me a flaming willow branch to rotate/insert slowly into your orifice once the trial gets started, I do ....)

weeeeeee !!!

Actually we threw the theivin' varmint in the brig. There he will stay, just in case someone needs a replacement and can't afford a new one. My father-in-law also has a Savage and not a lot of money for parts. The rascal will NOT be going back into MY bilge, however!

Do be sure to block off the vacuum tap on the carb... ...or you'll have a big intake leak...
;)...

Yep did that. It has a pretty red cap on it right now. That was what we had on hand. If I remember I will look for a different one when I am out and about.

He only took it for a short ride to make sure it was going to run (checking to see if we got everything back together good. I am waiting for the rain to go away to take her for a longer run. So far it's good. We will see if it solves the problems.

I just got back from an apprx 40 mile ride up and down all kinds of hills with all kinds of different traffic. She ran beautifully!!!! [smiley=laugh.gif] No issues at all so far. I have a question though. When I fill up with gas, do I have to shut the petcock off first? I filled up today and I didn't but I didn't know if I should have.

Nope...

I never shut mine off,... but, it's a good idea to, when you park overnight...

If the float/valve setup jams up then the gas will run on in & mess things up,,

... but,.. if you have it shut off when you park,.. it'll wait 'till your on the road to mess up...

I've never understood how that's a good thing... :-/...

Vacuum petcock is a "safety feature", my arse... ;D...

Now, now Serowbot, let's all be nice.
        ;D

The vac petcock is a safety feature in the exact same way a colostomy bag is a safety feature.

Both are a sack of shite and tend to either leak on you or tend to back up on you, generally giving you the a real case of the shits before it is done with aggravating you .....

..... and just like the bag, it just goes on and on and on and on

===========================

Still, since we have been actively warring the petcock we have had THREE (3) (oops, now it is FOUR) stock vac petcocks participate in dumping gas into a sump and ZERO (0) manual petcocks have dumped any reported amounts of gas into a sump.

When we have a gas in sump we need to ask the poster questions like what sort of petcock he is using and what did he do to stop the issue from happening again.

I don't hear people having to fix any float valves so far ....

I love the Raptor... glad I changed mine months ago!  Just never felt right to have the gas always "on" per say, but I learned to ride with older style "on" / "off"/ "reserve" valves anyway.

Yeah I forgot to turn it off when I got to work this morning.  :-[ I remembered when I read your post.  :-[ She started up and ran just fine on my way home tonight though.  :)

I think the point Serowbot keeps making is that turning it off is nice, but so far no one has had an issue with forgetting to turn it off and anything ill coming from it.

He doesn't bother to cut his off and I don't bother unless it will be sitting for a day or so.

If your float valve works, you are good either way.

So far no failed float valves are reported after over a year of constant Raptor use with over 30 people reporting ....

During that year we have had 4 stock vac petcocks fail and dump gas into the sump.

;)

I think the Raptor folks are relatively safe even if they forget to turn it off occasionally.

Just wanted to update and say that I haven't had an issue at all since installing the Raptor! [smiley=laugh.gif] I forget to turn it off almost everyday at work (I have remembered the past couple of days though) and she still starts and runs perfectly. In fact, my husband wants to get and install one on his bike now.[smiley=laugh.gif]
