Title: Pop! Post by HalfPint on 06/21/11 at 18:03:52 Is what my rear tire told me today. Well, the valve stem burst mid ride, and my treads are pretty much nonexistent anyway. I've never had to order tires yet for my savage. The one on there that the PO had used was a 150/80/15. What brands/sizes is everyone using? Why? What are the Pros/Cons in buying a 140/80/15 vs the 150? |

Title: Re: Pop! Post by 12Bravo on 06/21/11 at 18:28:25 A 140/80 is the actual stock size. Some people have clearance problems when running a 150/80, some don't. A 140/80 or 140/90 would be my suggestion. I am currently running a 140/90 Metzler M880 on mine. |

Title: Re: Pop! Post by Boofer on 06/21/11 at 18:49:52 I have the Metzeler on front, K555 Dunlop on rear. Dunlop was $93 locally. Metzeler was $117. Tubes around $20 each. Mounting $40 each. Peace of mind....wait for it...Priceless! Don't forget to buy 90 degree stem tube for rear, mounted to the right, of course. Metzeler does come in stock 140/80-15 size, but is not usually listed in sales brochures or magazine ads. |

Dunlop 404's are pretty good, Metzler's better if you ride more than 5k per year... I'm going to go with a Kenda k673 Kruz 140/90 -15 next time... good bang for the buck... Title: Re: Pop! Post by Jimmer on 06/22/11 at 10:46:07 Just put bridgestone spitfire (S11) on the front and rear. Only have about 200 miles on them, but they handle excellent. I ran Dunlop 404 before, so the comparing has just started. I also run the 140/80-15 on the rearon my bike. |

Post by runwyrlph on 06/22/11 at 13:12:18 glad you're ok - i know from experience how fun a mid-ride "POP" can be. i've used a Kenda Challenger 140-90 for the last 2 rear tires - i think i got around 7,000 miles out of each. i used the same tube over the last 2 times - probably replace it next time |

Boofer~ It didn't even occur to me that I'd have to look into the tubes! :-[ [It took me a few minutes to realize the spokes force me to need tubes] Also for mounting around here it's $20 per tire if you bring it already off the bike. Serowbot~ What is this error you speak of? Is there some miscalculation that a 90 would fix? |

When your speedo says, 60mph,.. you are really traveling at about 55mph... The taller 90 profile tire corrects this, and makes the speedo pretty close to right... |

The tire I decided to try since Runwyrlph mentioned they had a 7k run was the Kenda K657 140/90/15 http://www.bikebandit.com/kenda-k657-challenger-motorcycle-tire For the tubes.. I really just picked that brand and went with the rim size. Since that angled stem is very desirable I started back at just tubes. Bridgestone and BikeMaster had them listed. The Bridgestone was 140/90-15 PV78 listed for $13.25. The BikeMaster was also 140/90-15 PV78 listed for $22.21. |
