Title: Web Camshaft
Post by RycaShawn on 06/16/11 at 07:54:20

I'm pulling the trigger on the Web camshaft (I just can't get myself to say web cam lol-feel like some kind of weirdo). The rest of the motor internals is planned to be stock. I haven't found out if I need valve relief cuts in the piston however. Anyone know? What's the experience with this cam? This is going into a Ryca with their air filter and muffler so I will be starting with their recommended jet, although I think I will probably need to take it to the next step because of the larger amount of air flow through the head. Also, with the same CR, the stock spark plug should likely be fine right?

Any suggestions and experience on head porting?

Oh god. You're gonna make me use the hardest search engine to use on the internet. I have been 100% unsuccessful to find anything ever...and I know I am not alone.

I just added you to my buddy list. haha awesome. Thanks!

You do not need valve cuts on the piston dome for a stock piston with ANY Web cam, included the dreaded Stage II cam.

If you go with a high compression piston, you get closer (but it has been done by Lancer -- direct your questions there)

Sweet! I'm tossing the clay in the garbage! More like the idea. Thanks for the direct answer!

Out of curiosity, what is the highest compression someone has run in the LS650?

If you do hop up your bike Klotz makes a breakin oil,I would use that then stick with Klotz a high performance oil.Other people on here seem to have had trouble once they hopped it up.

The Wiseco big bore pistons (actually early DR650 pistons) are higher compression and are relieved for valve clearance, whether it's necessary or not.

How much is that slug? Do you have to modify the head gasket for that bore size whatever it is?

they run about 150

I got the 1 over and used a stock head gasket.

So tempting...but for only about 25cc 14cc(!)  more and less gas mileage and no need to change the piston, I'm forcing myself to pass. Just gotta remind myself I'm only getting the bump stick because its the same price as a new stock one. I'm supposed to be maintaining 60mpg if at all possible.

Whereas I got the 2-over and a custom copper head gasket.

Custom. Not so tempting. :P

The custom gasket wasn't that much. $35 if I remember right.

darn, cost of an OEM one! I already ordered my gaskets, but I suppose I can sell the head gasket.

.... and the fastest Savage on the East Coast uses a stock piston, turns over 7,000 rpm and runs away from everybody ....

;D          it's the cam boys, it's the cam !!

Today I found something ugly on my cylinder wall. Looks like porosity that has always been there, just got by inspection. I have no other way to describe it, except with a photo, but I am not good with shrinking photos on my mac. (suggestions to reduce picture size??) Anyway, I have no choice but to go to the next bore size. I really hope a 95mm piston will machine the porosity away. Couldn't imagine if it unveils a bigger hole underneath.

Moto: If I search on the Wiseco site under 1992 Suzuki DR650, is that the right application? This is the part number: 4597M09600 for the 96mm piston. $195  :(

If you use Photobucket to host your pics, they have an easy re-size tool.

Thanks verslagen1. This is a better deal than buying retail or even a discounted retail from Wiseco. The Wiseco site doesn't even list the piston with pin, clips and rings. Buy separately and you just racked up a hefty bill.

When you buy from Wiseco, the pin, clips and rings come with it, all neatly packed in the box.

Hey Moto. What does the compression ratio turn out to be with this semi domed 96mm piston? 9.5:1? I'm going to upgrade 28ccs, bump the compression, and add the web cam. With some head porting, that stock exhaust pipe has really got to go huh? Might have to visit my buddy John at Hytech Exhaust...

Here's the question. What kind of Torque and Horsepower figures am I looking at?

According to LANCER, about 10:1
