Title: New Pics!!! She's gettin there!
Post by bluesavage218 on 06/14/11 at 15:17:52

Finally got her pieced back together today. I still want to add new foot pegs, new grips because I had bought some cheap ones, muffler and pipe wrap and then eventually a new paint job. I like the blue but I want the rest of the bike painted. I just built the battery box you see the other day. Still needs sanding and and painting but she'll do for just riding up and down the street.

Great job! Will you be adding a rear fender? I've been running mine without for a little while and I miss it!

If you want opinions, I'd ditch those front turn signals, but I love the rest of it.

You can't really tell from the picture because Ive got it painted black right now but it has a fender. I cut a really small one out of the original. I wanted the back tire to show as much as possible,

Dude, I really like that. Agreed re: front signals, but that's looking awesome.

Hey,
Two questions: Where you gonna put the plate and did you put a washer/spacer behind the shock where the belt guard used to be? I ask, b/c it looks like you didn't and I didn't either. Just wondered if it matters.
Thanks.

I think the pics aren't doing my rear lights justice haha. I say that because they look really good in person, but it could just be my personal bias... I like em.

I haven't put the plat on yet it. It goes on the belt side on the rear axle. It's one of those curved plate holders (custom look). I just haven't gotten to it yet. For the washer I don't remember there being one so I guess the answer is no I didn't but it's not necessary to have it.

OHHHH Front signals!!! haha my bad. I think I may just put clear lenses on them because I like how they give it that wide look in the front. If I can find some better ones I may change them, but I'm gonna leave them for now. haha for some reason I kept reading rear sorry.

that looks cool. what switch housing units are you running?

And where's the voltage reg hiding?

I just have one switch housing on the left side. It's actually from a Honda CBR but I ripped the kill switch out and bought two on off switches at autozone and fixed them into the housing and used the ignition switch as the horn. I think I took some pics ill post if i can find them.

The voltage regulator is under the seat on the fender. I drilled holes in the fender and just bolted it down.

the clutch kill switch or the kickstand kill switch? how did you terminate the wires?

I just connected the clutch kill switch together so you don't have to hold the clutch to start it. The kickstand kill switch has been gone since I put Ed L's forward controls on. I went through and just cleaned up all the wires. Rerouted everything, got rid of stuff thats useless (there's actually alot of it), and went to town with black electrical tape and black heat shrink wrap.

She aint getting there....she is there!!! I like it  a lot.

One question: Where did you find those clip-ons. I have been looking for a while but cant seem to find any for a reasonable price. Also, do they hit the tank in a full locking turn??

$89. I thought it was a fairly decent price. I really like them. Mine are 7/8" but I think they make 1" as well. As far as hitting the tank, I've had no problems. I can do a full turn and they wont touch.

Here's a close-up of the switch housing I came up with. I actually have hazard lights now as you can turn both blinkers on at the same time. Also the switches themselves light up when the blinker is on so I don't forget to turn it off.

Got the rear lights of ebay. I think I paid $30 or $40 I can't remember exactly. If you just type in LED motorcycle turn signal brake lights they should pop up.

hey man your bike turned out well. im feeling the blue for sure and i hope that you have a 3/4 helmet to match! have you considered doing a mini battery mod and opening up that space where you currently have your battery? i think it may look cool on your bike. heres a link to one i found: http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1259644714/0

and could look like this:

Wow, I would never have noticed that. What type of switches are those? Do they plug right into the triple tree handlebar holes or was modification necessary? Lastly, when you say that you connected the clutch kill switch together do you mean that you connected it to itself to complete the circuit? is there another way to delete the clutch and kickstand kill switches as well as the wiring for them?

Sorry for the 20 questions   ::)

Title: Re: New Pics!!! She's gettin there!
Post by bluesavage218 on 06/16/11 at 12:19:00

The ignition switch is just a basic push start switch you can buy at autozone and the high low beam is a on off rocker switch with led light also at autozone. I've got it wired so that when the high beams on the led on the switch is also on.

I used washers that I bought at lowes and jb welded them into the triple tree holes. Fairly easy process. he switches fit right into the washer holes and then I just painted the washers black so you cant tell they weren't made like that.

Yes on the clutch switch i just completed the circuit. I'm pretty sure completing the circuit on those two switches is necessary so I don't know of any other way to eliminate them. I just cut them down as small as I could get the wires and soldered them together. No worries about the questions, thats what this forum is for! Any other close ups I can post let me know. I don't mind at all and I took quite a few pics during the process as well.

Also if you guys look at the right side pic of the bike. There's a little silver thing right under the seat. Thats actually my kill switch. I bought one of those (i call them nos switches) switches that has the cover on it and when the cover is down its off. I used one of the holes where the airbox or something used to be and made that my kill switch.

Note:  I called airtech and spoke with someone there about getting the clip-ons with 1" bars instead of the 7/8" bars so I can use stock grips and switch housings. They said that the 1" bars were out of stock but should have some more in a couple of weeks.
