Title: Excessive oil harmful?
Post by Philip on 06/10/11 at 10:18:43

Just bought a 2006 S40 and changed my oil a few weeks ago, I completely drained it and replaced the filter and put 2.5 GTs back in per the specs but the oil window is completely covered when I level the bike up. When its leaning against the stand and on level ground, there is no oil in the window. Should I try to drain the oil and fill it back up with new until its between the hash marks? Am I going to damage my motor if I over filled it? Thanks for the input,

Philip

Sounds like you're only a little over...  should be okay...
Lots'a guys here run that way... ;)...

You're maybe a 1/8 to a 1/4 qt. over the line.
I personally wouldn't be concerned enough to drain it.
If you are... open the timing port and some should come out.
tip it a little if it's still over.

If it covers the sight glass I would drain some off.
I would get it to the proper level.
Next time you change oil be careful draining the oil.
Measure how much you took out and put that much back in.

You only need to put in 2 quarts.
