Title: Seat!
Post by CarlMuskel on 06/10/11 at 02:23:25

Any recommendations for a comfy good looking seat for my -92 Savage. In my opinion the stock seat is both ugly and uncomfortable.

I'm gonna find out next week if the corbin seat is all it's cracked up to be. But Sandra bullocks seat would work for me too.

There aren't a whole lot of after-market options for our seat, but we've done some creative things.  I found a Mustang seat for an old Ironhead on Ebay for dirt cheap, in great shape, similar shape to my stock seat, but the pan wasn't curved right.  So I took the guts off my seat and transferred the padding and vinyl from the Mustang to my stock seat pan (also had raw Saddlemen gel insert).  Had a little help from a professional upholsterer, but if I hadn't known someone to help, I probably could have winged it myself.  Others have modified Sportster seats, I think someone even used a stock Vulcan seat.  All depends on what you want and your amount of imagination... and a little talent....

What "style" are you looking for?  What have you seen that you like?

Thanks for all replies :) I am looking for a slim looking seat, kinda like the sportster seat. Where do you get the Corbin seats? Do they fit bolt on?

Cheers Carl

Directly from Corbin. $279, but worth every penny.

Okay, I got the corbin seat mounted and took it to work today. It's only about a half hour each way so I didn't get a really good chance to test out the seat but in the short time I was in the saddle, it was way more comfy than the stock or the sporty seat. I'll hopefully get a chance to take it for a longer ride this weekend.

AL, did the Corbin move you closer or farther back from the bars/pegs?
I'm trying to go back more but I heard the Corbin does just the opposite...

I was hoping for a little more room too but it does move the driver closer to the tank. I don't have forward controls but I have highway pegs and it seems okay using them. I have short legs anyway. Can't wait to go for a longer ride. Seems like there's more room for the passenger but thats what I bought the C50 for.

When the Sporty arrives and is put on,
I will give an opinion of it verses the stock. :) kim

I'm 5"10 Al. How much closer is it?

Judging by the distance from my crotch to the tank, I'd say about two or three inches. I'll have a better idea how it is when I get a long ride in.

Thanks Al. I may have to get forward controls if it's too close. I just ordered a TKAT forkbrace and was looking at Routy's forward controls but they may be pushing them too far ahead. I think there is a certain height requirement for them.

Let me know and thanks!

I have the Corbin and it does put you a couple of inches forward. I also have Routy's forward controls. I am 5'9 with a 32" inseam. This combo put me too close to the bars (I was leaning back a little) so I bought a broomstick handlebar. This took away the 4.5" pullback from the stock drag bar, and now I lean a bit forward which is very comfy for my 61 year old back. Another solution would have been to turn the stock risers around, which would have moved the bars forward about 3", but the brake line would have interfered with the windshield. Now I can ride through two tanks of gas before needing a stretch.

Nice! I have a 30" inseam. So I may be in the same boat as you since I am an inch taller. My arms might be longer but I have to sit on my bike and take some measurements. Thanks for Taking the time to help me out.

KC.

I have a pretty good review for the corbin seat. After riding all last week in the mountains of N.C. & Tenn. I can say that I've found the right seat. I'm not sure of the total miles we did all week but I know that we did over 300 miles on saturday and my butt wasn't sore at all. I could have riden more but i was exhausted. I know with the stock seat and even the sportster seat, I would have been in bad shape. It was expensive, over 300 with shipping but i think it was well worth it. Even with the forward sitting position it was fine. I used my highway pegs alot and that was really comfy.
