Title: 'Skat' ribbon and bracelet split
Post by scroop on 06/09/11 at 18:02:46

God bless you Skat, you certainly do have a battle on your hands.  I don't know what else to do but offer encouraging words, prayer, and tote the pink.

If anyone is interested in wearing a pink silicone wristband debossed with "Skat" let me know.  I can get them to you for $2 each if I order ten.   ( http://24hourwristbands.com/order-custom-silicone-wristbands/ )
Also, 2"X4" pink ribbon magnets for the scooter with "Skat" printed on them for $5 if I order ten.  ( http://www.supportourribbons.com/custom-ribbon-magnet-sticker/37459/Skat )
Those were the best prices that I could find on personalized items and wanted to ask all of you before ordering my own.  ---Scroop

Yes, I would like a wristband also. I'll be in Quebec for the next week or ten days, and would like to order one on my return. :)

Hey c'mon everyone, on this thread only, post it in pink for Skat!

Hey! I saw they have GLOWING pink ones too! Are the glow in the dark?
Which were you going to order (hot pink, regular pink, or the glow ones?)

And how do you want us to pay for this?

Like many others, I will take one of each.  Just tell us how to pay you for them (I like Pay Pal.)

Shoot me a PM with where to send you some funds. I'd like a bracelet and 2 of the magnets, I'll put one on the truck or my other bike.

Payday is in two weeks.

Couldn't make my typing change color.  :-?

Verslagen1, Thanks for starting the new thread.  I was thinking the same thing.  It looks as though we have plenty of interest and I will order the ribbons and magnets shortly and I figure that they will take about 1-3 weeks for them to get to me.  I will ship them out to everyone a day or two after that and will post a comment so that you all know that they are on the way.

Skat - Which wristband color do you like and that is the one that we will use (have mercy on us guys ;D).

I had a number of people offer to cover the expense for you, so you are off the hook on this one.

Title: Re: 'Skat' ribbon and bracelet split
Post by scroop on 06/12/11 at 05:54:03

PAYMENT:
I have put some thought to this and this is what I came up with.  If everyone was to send me the money for the wristbands and magnets, then no tangible good would have been done for the cause of fighting this thing.  Yes, it would give encouragement to Skat and keep the battle constantly on our minds (and that's a good thing), but I think that we can do a little more with no extra effort or expense.  Skat, this is where you come in.  Post the web site of the breast care center that is working with you.  Those who order a wristband/magnet can make a donation equal (OR GREATER) to the cost of the item(s) to that center.  This way, we can make a difference not only in Skat's life, but also in the lives of others :D.  This will be based on the honor system.

SHIPPMENT:
IM your address to me and I will send the items as soon as I get them.  I seem to be sometimes having trouble responding to an IM, so don't be worried if I don't reply.

Scroop - you totally ROCK!

Colour for bracelets = HOT PINK - it wont be as 'sweet' as regular pink or as crazy as glowing pink, so you guys have a break - okay?

I have a rare cancer called Inflammatory Breast Cancer. The Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia PA has a program that focuses only on this type of cancer, and the research they are doing on this is helping ALL breast cancer research; they have a small narrow field to work from and are consolidating results that effect many more women (and men).

I am enrolled in their research program - I sincerely hope my participation helps any other person who gets IBC - its not pretty and statistically only 40% of those who get it live five years past diagnosis.

That being said, I am going for the 40% and longer target!  :-*

http://www.fccc.edu/physicians/locations/wcc/ibc.html

there is a "Giving and Volunteering" link to the left side of the page. There are multiple ways to donate, chose what works best for you.

and THANK YOU ALL....it just goes to show that even a little bit of compassion CAN make a difference!  8-)

Post by scroop on 06/13/11 at 17:04:52

Well, we gotta suck it up, guys.  Hot pink it is.  Only, can't we call it something else?  Any ideas out there?  I like to think of myself as a pretty humble guy, but I do hang on to some pride and I'd hate to have to scrap it out with some guy 'cause he ripped on my "hot pink" attire :o!

I've had some folks offer assistance with the purchasing of the magnets and wristbands and that's not a surprise from these good folks :).  I'll respond personally to those by PM or e-mail.

Skat - The Fox Center group looks like a great gang!  I think that you're in good hands out there.  I'll have to visit that place some year as I'm only about four hours from the place.  Keep fighting and may God bless your efforts and give you peace.  We're your friends here and we're with you the whole way through this thing ;)!

I apologise for not replying sooner - have had some crappola chemo side effects this week that have really slowed me down.  :P

In answer to several people asking - yes, you may make the donation with my name, no problem.  If you want my 'real' name you can PM me. :)

And how about KICK ARSE PINK or KICK CANCER PINK as the colour name?

Again, thank you all for doing this - it makes a difference!

CANCER KICKIN' PINK ... I like it!  Actually, the true color name is (and I'm not making this up) HOTPINK-PMS:806!  You gotta love it!  The wristbands and magnets are ordered and I will let you know when I get them and ship them to you.  I also ordered a few extra.  I'd like to publicly thank those who had contacted me to help financially with the cost.  Also, I had replied to everyone that sent me a PM.  If you didn't get a reply, it's probably because my computer has issues and needs an attitude adjustment.  If you got 20 replies, it's because I kept trying.

No apologies neccessary, sis.  You just get the rest that your body needs.

Title: Re: 'Skat' ribbon and bracelet split
Post by WD on 06/16/11 at 02:52:15

No need to apologize to us hon. Chemo side effects can be worse than the initial disease side effects. You get the rest you need to keep fighting this.

Lisa was with her brother for his last 2 months, the VA docs didn't make his diagnosis until deep into end stage. She said that the chemo really dehydrated him, inside and out. So up your fluid intake, you'll feel a lot better. And frequent oatmeal/shea soaks and soaps are supposed to help too.

rest.
All the best to you.. Hugs gal, :) kim

PMS = Pantone Matching System ; a numbered system which designers and printers use to make sure ink colours exactly match....but nice try on thinking of the OTHER PMS !  ;D

Also, I did PM you Scroop - did you get that? My mom wants to order 8 bracelets for the rest of my family to wear too. She wants to know where to send you payment; pullluuuze let us pay for those!!

The donation size is irrevelant - ANY amount helps.
And the fact that even if each person gives just a little it adds up rapidly and shows how many people CARE.

I cannot thank you all enough, and sincerely hope that this helps others in the future with better detection, better meds and NED for more people and for more years after diagnosis!

(thats "No Evidence of Disease" = what we are aiming for!)  :)

I still think the PMS thing is funny! ;D

If it makes your family feel more comfortable, then they can pay for the wristbands, but of course it's not neccessary.  I can mail them to your mom or hand deliver them.  I'm only 2 1/2 hours away and plan to drive right by her place on my way to Gettysburg July 4th weekend.  Let me know what works.

Praying for your needed rest.

I'm counting on Owl Gore to kick up the global warning thing for the summer already.  It's been the typical cool/humid/cool/humid cycle with lots of overcast and on/off showers.  So it goes.

and...

THE WRISTBANDS ARRIVED FRIDAY AND THE MAGNETS ARRIVED TODAY!!   :D
I plan on shipping them out to all of you on Monday the 27th.  The magnets look great and seem to be of good quality.  The wristbands (or bracelets for you ladies) seem to be very durable, but I will admit that I am disappointed on the size of the letters.  And for those that care, both products were handcrafted (well, o.k. machine stamped) in the good 'ol U.S.A.  Please let me know if you do not receive them.  Also, I do have a few extras for anyone interested.

Just wanted to share that my test results from Monday at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philly were excellent - so good in fact that the doctor said I can stop chemo now and not have to do any more chemo at all; even after surgery!!!

I was so excited that I did a little Happy Dance right there in the exam room - the chemo side effects have been terrible, so this is a BIG DEAL to not have to get any more!  8-)

Thanks to everyone for your support and kindness during this stressful time.

That's great news to hear Skat!   :)  Congratulations!

Have you had any problems with colds or viruses etc. from chemo depleting your immune system??  My sister is in the hospital with a bad case of pneumonia.  They figure she contracted it from being over stressed and public contact at her son's wedding while in the middle of her chemo treatments.

I did start feeling a little lite in the loafers with that much pink... ;D...

So,... I spread it around a little...  Ribbon on my bike, magnet on my car, and bracelet is on my computer monitor...

Maybe I'll eat some raw meat...  and practice my grunty noises...
Grrr!,... Arghhhh!....:-?...

I LOVE light pink. It's my favorite color. Next comes black, grey, and white.

I have always wondered why there is a stigma associated with guys who like pink?

Any comments?

Guys who rock pink are totally hot in my book!

Serowbot - whoa - that looks amazing on your tank!

And whoever finds a PINK sheepskin needs to tell me where - I would soooo do that!

My mom said she got hers and has already passed them out to family members - my little nieces (ages 5 and 8) are wearing them now.
If things work out, they will never have to face the cancer monster.
Phhoto is from LAST summer before I lost all my hair.

The obvious comes to mind...it's the first color they use to distinguish between a girl and a boy in the delivery room. It really IS hard to differentiate them at that age and I've relied on the way they dress them on many occasions to keep my foot out of my mouth. I suppose it all starts there!
After spending years teaching 18-20 year old apprentices in construction I've come to the tongue-in-cheek conclusion that teenage boys are pack animals! Always trying to figure out where they stack up to the lead dog. Anything outside the "macho" mainstream is seen as weakness to them. The trick is convincing them that "apes" are a dime a dozen but self thinkers go on to become foremen and leadmen and THAT'S where the money is! Once they figure out there's good money in behaving professionally, a lot of that cr@p fades away!

As for me personally, I had two daughters long before my son came along. I wasn't much on pink but I wore yellow, orange and light blue pocket t's for years as gifts from my girls and anybody that didn't like it had three other directions to look!   ;)

Don't think of it as pink, or even hot pink, think of it as "Playboy Pink"  The wristband especially, is the exact same color that Playboy used for years to show off its best Playmates.  How macho is that?

P.S.  Skat, you wouldn't mind if Bot thought of Playboy Pink when he looked at your ribbon would you?

Thanks for the mental image, Bot!  :P

Skat,
Love the picture.  When my nieces and nephews were younger I'd put them on the tank and putt around the yard - they loved it and so did I.  Most kids are fascinated with bikes.  How cool is that!

A big THANK YOU to PreacherMike for hand delivery of the Skat bracelet and magnet - great to meet him and his lovely wife.

I apologise for not being able to stay awake for very long - still suffering from the chemo side effects. :P

This has been great - I appreciate the work that has gone into it.  :)

SHOOT!  I wanted to say that, just moved to slow.  My not staying awake has nothing to do with chemo, though.  :-/

Anyway, it was great to meet her and see her bike.  Maybe one day soon we will get to ride together.

Hello everybody,

I'm very glad to read you are getting better Skat!!!

As some of you may know, I'm gonna be in PA, and Philly specifically, in mid-September. Would it be possible to have two of each to my hotel? I'm planning to even pay a visit to the Fox Chase Cancer Center while I'm in town.

Take care,

RW

I'll set two of each aside for you, just let me know when and where.

I just learned the terrible news on our Skatergirl :-[ .  Thanks for all of your efforts, Mike.  I have three wristbands and three magnets left if anyone is interested.  They are free with a donation to the Chase Cancer Center in honor of Katherine.
